I purchased a 2005 Chrysler 300 February 2014 with 114k. Overall the car is in mint condition up till 3 months ago, July 2014. I was merging on to 495 North at 4:30a.m., increased my speed in order to merge on to highway, when the car accelerated on its own to about 60mph the rpms went to 6 on the gage, at first I thought my floor matt was stick under the throttle, but it wasn't. Tried applying the brake and that didn’t slow the car down either.
Thank god my Brother was with me, he told me to put the car in to neutral and turn the key off. I did and pulled off to the side of the road to a safe place. The ETC red lite came on, He looked it up in my owner’s manual, and it was the Electrical Throttle control lite. Up until 3 weeks ago (Sept 9, 2014), I haven’t had any trouble.
The second incident happen while I was traveling up 210 South at 5:00a.m., when I went to pass two cars from the left lines to the right, I was again traveling about 40 mph and pressed the accelerator pad to increase my speed to get into the right line to pass the two cars in the left lines, the car accelerated again to 60/65mph, it like took off with NO pressure to the accelerator petal, the RMP’s again raced to about 6rpm, I put my emergency lights on, turn the car off and pull to the side of the road to a safe place, again the ETC lite was lit up. Thank god no one was in front of me I would have hit them with being unable to stop the car with applying the brake.
I have reported this issue to Chrysler 3 weeks ago; of course they have no reported issues or recalls for the ETC code. When calling the dealership service I was told I would have to pay for the diagnosed at $138.00 and in his 15 years he had never heard of this issue happening. While at this point it’s not about who should pay or if there is a recall or not. IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. It’s not NORMAL for your car to just accelerate on its own when pressing the accelerator petal. I have reported this issue to the Transpiration Admin. Be safeïŠ
