CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2015 Chrysler 200 carries the torch of "never buy the 1st year of a new vehicle generation" with pride.

The 2015 model year is the first year of the Chrysler 200's 2nd generation. It has been plagued by problems from the start. Transmission failure at extremely low mileage, many recalls, problems stalling while driving... the list goes on. Maybe Chrysler should have stuck with the 1st generation.

As a prelude, I had an Infiniti 2008 G35 sports since new and sold it in favour of my Chrysler 200C (I thought it was an "S" model - but I guess that's just semantics!). Anyway, I never had a problem with its paddle shifters. If I geared down using the "-" paddle, the engine's transmission would automatically shift up or down, depending on the speed.

Now here's my problem: If I leave the paddle shifters alone the tranny gears up and down automatically. But, the instant I hit the paddle, be it - or +, the transmission will stay in that gear until I use the next paddle! I had reported the problem to Willowbrook Chrysler, where I had purchased the car. Nobody seemed to take me seriously. Then, 2 days ago I spoke with a service rep, "Cam", who said "it is a known problem. Bring the car in and we will do the computer update which should take about an hour".

I took the car in (while it was there, I asked if they could disable that annoying automatic locking of the doors when reaching a certain speed 20 km/hr (?). Well they disabled that and told me that the paddle shifters "worked fine". They work but no differently than they did before! And the service rep (not Cam), came out to my car as I was leaving and asked if I was not supposed to pay for this "work"! I replied, "I hope not, the car is not 2 months old!"

I reported the fact that nothing had changed with the paddle shifters the same day. Someone was supposed to get back to me. Nada! So I called back and spoke with this same "Cam". He now says that is the way the paddle shifters work! You have to manually shift up or down before the tranny will change gears!

IF WHAT I AM NOW TOLD, THE CHRYSLER 200 TRANSMISSION, VIZ, THE PADDLE SHIFTERS ARE MUCH INFERIOR TO THOSE OF THE IMPORTS! (When I went to replace my Infiniti, I wanted to support the local North American manufacturers. Now, I wonder, "Should I have stuck with the devil that I knew?")

I welcome any input from fellow 2015 Chrysler 200(C) owners. Thanks for allowing me this opportunity to vent my frustrations

I test drove this car in regular drive mode, then I got the car, and while driving it home the first day I got it, I accidentally hit the (+) paddle so it went into paddle shift mode, which is no big deal while in D as you can use it in both "D" & "S". So I pulled out the manual to see how do dis-engage it, did what it said....and nothing. It didn't work.

A week later, its still in paddle sh*t mode, it's shifting funny and accelerating and decelerating when its not suppose to....and it still won't dis-engage. Each day the automatic shifting got worse. Got an appointment to get it into the shop. I'm beyond aggravated....you get a new car for a reason, so you don't have to deal with stuff like this....and here I am dealing with it. Not impressed at all! Its a brand new car and shouldn't be messing up like this. There are more problems then just this...too!
