CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2015 Chrysler 200 carries the torch of "never buy the 1st year of a new vehicle generation" with pride.

The 2015 model year is the first year of the Chrysler 200's 2nd generation. It has been plagued by problems from the start. Transmission failure at extremely low mileage, many recalls, problems stalling while driving... the list goes on. Maybe Chrysler should have stuck with the 1st generation.

The car engine keeps on stalling while it is in motion. The car suddenly stops while I am driving it. There are no warning lights, visual cues or sounds to indicate any problem. As a result, the car's power steering becomes inoperable. The speed of the car varies at the time of each incident. Each time this incident has happened, the car has become disabled in the middle of the street. There have been 5 incidents this past month. So far, the car has been able to restart after putting the car in park and after a couple of attempts of pushing the start button along with stepping on the brakes. It usually takes a couple of minutes. During that time, my car is in the middle of the street and in traffic. I have had my children in the car during some of these incidents. It is an extreme safety risk.

Takata recall I have had my Chrysler 2015 200 for 3 years and since I've had my car it has always had an issue with accelerating on its on. It accelerates when you tap the breaks and it will accelerate on its on taking it off cruise control as well. So last week my car was being driven on the highway and the car was put on cruise control going about 60-65 mph then once the brake was tapped to slow down the car began to lock up and accelerate up to 90 mph. Then after the car picked up speed the whole car locked up steering wheel would not turn or anything and the car ended up hitting a wall. The state of what cause the issue is unknown, however I think this issue should be taken further for an investigation.

While in motion the vehicle will shut down - steering wheel locks, brakes dont brake, no sensor lights. Vehicle starts after 30+ mins but no mechanic can locate the problem due to no sensor lights. This is a major health issue when the vehicle stalls in high traffic areas and can't be moved. At this time, it has happened on 3 occassions within a two week span.

Three times in the last two weeks my car has turned off completely while driving. Each time it has happened as I was braking. Took several minutes to get the car re-started and left me stranded dangerously in the middle of the road. There has already been a recall for this exact issue which my car has been serviced for and yet it is still happening.

Takata recall; while driving through heavy traffic on a Sunday afternoon a warning light appears on the dash screen: Power steering unavailable, need service soon. Suddenly the steering wheel lock up and wouldn't turn. I cruise the car to the traffic light waiting for it to turn red in order to turn the ignition off. When the traffic light turn green I turn the ignition back on but suddenly the warning light came back on and again I wasn't able to steer the car over to the next lane it froze up. Traffic was heavy and a large truck was driving behind me blowing his horn for me to speed up or get out of the way but I could not steer the car over. I put on the emergency lights and try hard to steer the car until I reach another traffic light to turn off the ignition. When reaching the red light I turn off the ignition and turn it back on at the green light. The warning light went off again and the steering wheel turned a little better for me to cruise the car in the right hand lane to the nearest shop. I was about 15 miles from home and able to steer the car in a straight lane to drive slow with my amber lights bleeping. Then I notice a Firestone was open, the steering wheel was lock up again so I jerk it as hard as I can to steer it into the parking lot. This was a dangerous situation and thanks god for his protection because this could have cause a lot of people lives. Firestone examine my vehicle and explain what they felt the problem was; electrical, and I had to leave the vehicle to diagnose the problem. The following day they explain to me that it could be my battery so they replace the battery still no success. Call the following day and asked if they believe they could repair the car and the manager was honest and said no because it's a safety issue, the parts that is needed is out of stock and the car have to be taken to a dealership. Possible a recall.

The contact owns a 2015 Chrysler 200. While driving at any speed, the air bag warning indicator illuminated, which was a safety concern. The contact also stated that the vehicle jerked, made loud noises, and accelerated without warning. In addition, the contact stated that the vehicle decelerated when making a turn. The vehicle was taken to thomas Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram (9604 indianapolis blvd, highland, in 46322, 219-924-6100) where it was diagnosed that the air bag and the steering wheel control module needed to be repaired. The contact was sent back to the independent mechanic from where the vehicle was purchased. The independent mechanic informed the contact that the vehicle was sold 'as is' and referred the contact to a muffler shop to repair the air bag and the steering. The contact stated that the air bag and the steering were repaired, but she was not informed of what was completed to repair the failures. The failures recurred a month later. The contact called the dealer back and was informed to go back to the seller. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.

First, there is the HVAC/windshield defrost. My concern with that condition is that my vehicle is my main source of travel and to have the HVAC to work properly in the summer is vital as well, as having a clear windshield. A breakdown at night, an accident, hitting a pole hole, something or someone would be far worse than a mere inconvenience. Incidentally, my intended use of the vehicle was made quite clear to the sales staff when I bought it. Second, and the matter of far greater concern to me is the transmission. Car making clucking noise, vibrating, jerking while shifting gears and launching while driving as if someone hit me from the back. Third, vehicle is only 2 years old and has had to have the drive shaft replaced. Which in return I've been without vehicle for more then 14 days and occur extra expenses of car rentals, tires and wheel alignment due to irregular wear. Fourth, hesitation on attempt to accelerate. I was informed that issue would be resolved with replacement of drive shaft. Defective drive shaft was the reason for delay and jerking. Fifth, excessive gas burning. I was informed that exist because of drive shaft. Once drive shaft was replaced it didn't resolve issue. I was giving a formula to calculate gas mileage, which was given to dealer. Car averaging 16mpg. Per car sticker fuel economy: Highway 29/ city 18. Car is driven mostly on highway without a lot of stop and go traffic.

Also, I have other on going issues with the transmission, stalling, hesitating, pulling side to side, consuming gas, jerking, making a clucking noise, HVAC issues, drive shaft and shifting gears.

While driving on interstate front wheels began shaking. Shaking stopped below 30 mph but steering became difficult to turn. For past couple of weeks I experienced sensation that car was not connected to road as if the front wheels were not turning when steering wheel was turned. Convinced myself it was irregularities in road and continued on. Today limped home at 30mph.

A couple weeks ago my car stalled and totally shut down as I was turning into my driveway. It completely locked up including the brakes, steering, transmission and wouldn't do anything. I tried to put the car in park however the control knob to do so was locked and wouldn't move. The engine was shut down but all the electrical systems were working and several service messages cycled through the display screen. My husband had to disconnect the battery, which reset everything and allowed us to start the car and pull it out of the road and into the driveway. I called Chrysler roadside and my car was towed to the Chrysler dealership. After 3 days in the service dept I was informed they could not recreate the issue that caused the car to totally shut down and lock up while driving. They drove the car, however no codes were active and they were unable to get the car to throw a code while they had the vehicle. They have now returned my car to me without this major safety issue being addressed. Since they could not recreate the stalling and shutdown they returned the car to me. Luckily this happened as I was turning into my driveway as opposed to a few minutes earlier when I was on the highway surrounded by other vehicles. I'm very concerned that it could happen again and next time I may not be as lucky. I leased the car brand new in Aug. 2014, the lease ends Aug. 2017.
