CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2015 Chrysler 200 carries the torch of "never buy the 1st year of a new vehicle generation" with pride.
The 2015 model year is the first year of the Chrysler 200's 2nd generation. It has been plagued by problems from the start. Transmission failure at extremely low mileage, many recalls, problems stalling while driving... the list goes on. Maybe Chrysler should have stuck with the 1st generation.

When at a stop sign the and the vehicle is in drive the steering wheel shakes rapidly. Turn it in a different gear it stops. When trying to accelerate it has a delay; RPM will jump and nothing happens. You release the gas and the cars RPM drops and car jerks you into next gear. With this the vehicle is unsafe when trying to rapidly accelerate. This could potentially cause a wreck or a fatality due to the jerking motion and unaware of the problem could cause major injuries
Car stalls or shuts down out of nowhere while driving, slowing down or coming to a stop, with no signs or warning. Has happened on multiple occasions, most recently April 16, 2020.
Friday morning on February 28th 2020 I was driving my Chrysler 200 to work. I was on a busy street that navigates through downtown where I work at. The speed limit is 35mph. As I was continuing to drive down the road my car shut off mid drive. I lost control of my power steering as well as my breaks. A car that was driving behind me almost rear ended me due to the lack of warning for the abrupt stop. This was a very terrifying experience, going from 35 mph to 0 mph, with no control of the wheel or breaks, I couldn't do anything but let the car coast and wave my hands out the drivers window to signal cars behind me to slow down and not hit me. My car came to a complete stop in the middle of an intersection, where I blocked busy traffic for over 45 minutes waiting on the tow truck I had to call. The car wouldn't start back up when I tried multiple times to restart it as the car was stuck in neutral with blinking lights appearing on the dashboard telling me to put the car in park, which I couldn't because the gears locked up and wouldn't move. As a consumer this is very disappointing and most importantly it's unsafe. I was 1 hour late to work and I travel with my children in this car. I loved my Chrysler and I'm very sad that I now have to look for a different car since I no longer feel safe driving this Chrysler 200, things like this makes the vehicle seem very unreliable and unsafe.
Vehicle shakes when idling, parked, stopped or when not in motion. Rpms drops below 1 when in park and this begins the vehicle to shake. Vehicle struggles to gain speed in which, it stays moderated then accelerates at once. As well as, at random times vehicle will jerk unexpectedly while in motion. All this has happened over a period of a year and just recently, service engine light has finally came on. I have had maintenance done on my end to help fix the issues and nothing can be resolved.
During the past 2 months the car started turning off just minutes after we drove it off the parking lot. At night the car would be left overnight parked like any other regular car. Then me and my spouse would warm up the car before we would head to work and then we would drive off. The car would warm up after we turned it on and it would work good, it would not die. Until we actually changed gears and turned to drive it off the parking lot we would drive off a few streets and it would completely die in the middle of the streets atleast a F3 or 4 days out of the 7 day week. We changed the battery about 4 months ago and we went back to autozone but they tested the battery and said it was 100% charged so the issue wasn't the battery. We went to the dealer but they were trying to charge us over 1,000 because of a vacuum change in the system that has nothing to do with the car dying in the middle of the street. It's been 2 months already and I don't know what to do. Usually it shuts off when we decelerate the car not accelerate

The light to get airbag serviced keeps coming on and going off. It has started stalling randomly while driving or coming to a stop. Noticed that it didn't do it as bad once car was warmed up, but then it dropped power while we were in traffic on a bridge overpass and we had to limp it home. Looked up the warning light meanings and it said we should not drive it as it will either lose power without warning and have to be limped or it will accelerate and we would have no way to stop it. So I have a car that cannot be driven and I had seen that there were recalls for similar problems however, when I put my VIN number in, it said there were no unrepaired recalls for this VIN number. Consumer's husband and son-in-law repaired the vehicle.
1) power train-while traveling on interstate at 65mph the transmission pops out of gear. I had to pull over put the car in park and then back to drive before it would go. It also happened when I was pulling away from a stop sign making a right turn it popped out of gear and wouldn't go. I drifted to the side of the road stopped, went to park and back to drive. The car acts confused form time to time. From a stop position at take off the transmission jerks and then thumps before it goes into gear. 2). cruise control- traveling down interstate in the mountain region of N. Georgia, my cruise was set for 55mph. The cruise picked up speed up to 70 mph then the car started jerking very confused at what it was suppose to be doing. The brake wouldn't release the cruise control. I did get it released once the RPM's settled down. It has happen several times at various locations in the mountains and on flat ground. 3) the head lights are the worst lights I've ever seen on a car. When going down the road you may have 30 ft. That you can see in front of you. When going up and incline what so ever. Your visibility from the headlight is approximately 20 foot in front of you. Terrible headlights. Its scary going up any incline not being able to see what's 25 foot in front of you. All of these issues have been reported at my dealership. All of these issues have happen on more than one occasion.
The parking brake activates without touching it. I thought I was probably hitting it on accident but I'm no where near it. It's really scary. When I'm slowing down the car will accelerate on its own and the airbag light comes on and off.
Shift control module is defective - console message reads ' service trans stop safely shut off engine to engage park' this happend after I stopped and then started car, message stayed on console- with only 40992 miles - dealer is charging $700 for fix
I am continuing to have a several transmission problems with the car since I bought it I was not aware of the issues that these vehicles had with transmission I have been to the Chrysler dealership more than once. Not only do they provide the word customer service that I have ever had but they told me that the car just needs to be updated like an iphone which is not something I've ever heard of. Today it would not shift into the correct gear and almost had me hit somebody in rear-end them it is very unsafe and has happened more than once. I need help.
The car runs really rough, loud noise, loss of power and vehicle shuts down. Idles rough and jumps when placed in gear or accelerating. The vehicle stops and I unable move car even if the gear shift is placed in neutral. The vehicle stop when in motion.
Car loses oil even when not due for oil change not burning up just loses it cause car to stall and not start horrible engineering flaw just had a oil change last week and continues to do this
Vehicle speed control. I've reported this before and Chrysler insists our vehicle does not have this problem nor it is included in the recall. Problem always occurs while speed control is on and going downhill. The RPM's will increase significantly in an apparent attempt to slow down the vehicle by shifting down to way too low of a gear. Often RPM's will race near 5000+ and the scariest part is when you apply the brakes the speed control does not release. I have been the one driving when this has happened on half a dozen or more times. Recently my wife was driving alone and experienced this problem and didn't know what to do when she quickly approached a slow moving vehicle and the speed control would not release. She has bladder issues and pee'd her pants, literally. Luckily she has been in the vehicle before when this has happened and she thought quickly to move the vehicle into neutral and applied the brake which released the cruise control and allowed her to get her composure back. It was a close and scary call for her. Again, we have reported this several times and there is a recall for this exact problem and chrylser says our car does not have the problem and is not included in the recall, which is a simple software upgrade which they have and doesn't cost them much for the dealership to apply. The last time this happened was just a few weeks ago Saturday late afternoon May 18, 2019.
While driving with cruise control engaged going down a steeper grade on I-81 the vehicle accelerates and will not down shift. I have to stomp the brake or cancel cruise control to get the vehicle to slow down. Cruise control would not disengage from steering column. Cruise control was set at 65 mph and speed increased to ~75 mph. This happens at this same point on the highway every time I go thru there. Scary!!!!
While driving with cruise control engaged going down a steep hill the vehicle accelerated and would not down shift. I had to stomp the break to get the vehicle to slow down. Cruise control would not disengage from steering column. Cruise control was set at 60 mph and speed increased to 75 mph.
