CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2015 Chrysler 200 carries the torch of "never buy the 1st year of a new vehicle generation" with pride.

The 2015 model year is the first year of the Chrysler 200's 2nd generation. It has been plagued by problems from the start. Transmission failure at extremely low mileage, many recalls, problems stalling while driving... the list goes on. Maybe Chrysler should have stuck with the 1st generation.

200 S AWD 3.6L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 2,200 miles

We purchased a new 2015 Chrysler 200S AWD less than two weeks ago. The car automatically accelerates when coasting in the lower gears. For example, in between third and second gear, when the engine RPMs drop to 1,000 RPMs, the engine accelerates on its own to 2,000 RPMs. At 2,000 RPMs the acceleration stops and the car will coast to a normal stop. The driver must overcome the engine acceleration by braking. At times the engine acceleration surge is slight but at other times it is more aggressive and heavy braking is required to overcome the engine. We have owned the car for less than two weeks and it has been in the shop for 8 days as of today. In my opinion, this is a major safety issue that must be resolved by Chrysler. I spoke to the service shop last night and they are attempting to execute "flash" updates to the vehicle. I will follow up in this thread if Chrysler is able to resolve the issue but, for now, we are paying for a new Chrysler vehicle that is sitting at the dealership.

Bought a 2014 Dodge Dart 8,200 miles motor blew up, brand new crate motor traded in next day from service for the 200 s AWD. All the bells and whistles. 6,800 miles check engine light on and flashing. Car basically driving on its own. Took to Chrysler, they say just needs update. Two days later they call, oh by the way we hit the building with your car, so we need it longer to our sh*tty body shop. Car looks bad. We now have a caseworker and are beside ourselves.

I have a 2015 Chrysler 200S with a 9 speed transmission. I noticed that the car surges forward when I take my foot off of the accelerator at low speeds (around town). I have taken the car back to the dealer 3 times and have had the transmission control module upgraded and then completely replaced. Neither service attempt did anything to cure the problem. I have not had the same problem at high speeds so far. Being that we are in Ohio, we are very much afraid that the coming ice and snow season will complicate the safety of the acceleration issues. I have gotten varying pieces of advice from the dealerships, ranging from this acceleration is normal for a 9 speed transmission, to there isn't a problem.

Have been in contact with Chrysler case management with no help from them so far. I have posted my problem on the National Transportation Safety Board hot line, and hope that others sharing this issue will chime in. I have noticed recently that the shifting is getting more "herky-jerky" with this car. I think that this is a major safety concern and hope that enough people will be in contact with Chrysler to have this resolved in a recall. I have sent the preliminary information in in the attempt to start a lemon law procedure, but again, no response from Chrysler to the 3 letters I have sent.

My first new car and there has to be an issue after having two months and I think it was there since day one. Acceleration when using cruise control and when you take foot off gas. I feel this is dangerous. Took to get fixed.... No fix. I have a complaint into Chrysler. I want out....I want a safe car, being my first new car at my age, I wanted to enjoy it, not worry.

200 S 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 10,091 miles

This is scary. I am afraid of plowing into an intersection. The dealership had wiped out the check engine light a week earlier. The computer reading said that there was an issue with the cruise control. I hadn't used the cc much, so I wasn't terribly worried that anything was wrong.

However, my husband pointed out that when coasting, or even braking, the engine was sometimes accelerating on its own (when the cruise control was NOT engaged). I was watching for this, and I contacted the dealership and Chrysler. I already had an appointment for a recall check, but both said that if it happened more frequently to bring it in sooner. It did it again, so I took it in last week. I have a loaner vehicle...another 200. It seems to do the same thing. It is a 4 cylinder, though so it doesn't accelerate with as much power and speed as my 200 S. My appointment wasn't until Friday this week (April 17) so I am waiting to hear back.

Update from Apr 16, 2015: I was just contacted by the dealership. The cure is a new transmission control module covered under my warranty. It will be an overnight part and I should be back in my car by tomorrow. :)

Update from Apr 28, 2015: So much for that. I got my car back on the afternoon of 17th and returned it after work on the 20th for the exact same thing. I contacted Chrysler immediately and I now have a caseworker and case number until the problems are resolved. I heard back from Chrysler on April 23rd. The new plan is that I will now be getting a completely new transmission, which is on backorder, (but was expedited for my long wait). I have owned this car for 34 days and was able to drive it for exactly half of them. I have been in a loaner for the other 18 days.

200 Limited 2-4 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 2,109 miles

Purchased a 9-speed transmission vehicle from Chrysler Group. When decelerating, feels like an ATV shifting down and wants to kick forward. Manufacturer says the transmission is AUTO CALIBRATING to the new owner (for a few hundred miles). Problem with that was that I drove home bound one rainy day-came to a red light behind two other vehicles. Car wasn't warmed up yet so we know what happens- Car kicks forward and I brake but this time gears shifted hard and made me floor the brake.

Once I did this as I approached- my car accidentally rear-ended the middle vehicle and bumping into the front vehicle( ABS DIDN'T HELP). Now what do you tell the sheriff/highway patrol once on the scene?? It was my car's fault?? IN THE RAIN WITH A NEW CAR. By the way- posted limit was 40MPH, I was at 20-25, 3-5 car lengths behind the rest.
