CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2015 Chrysler 200 carries the torch of "never buy the 1st year of a new vehicle generation" with pride.

The 2015 model year is the first year of the Chrysler 200's 2nd generation. It has been plagued by problems from the start. Transmission failure at extremely low mileage, many recalls, problems stalling while driving... the list goes on. Maybe Chrysler should have stuck with the 1st generation.

Before reaching 1000 miles, I knew that there were terrible problems with the engine: Jerking, hesitating and stalling. These engine/transmission problems make my car unsafe to drive as we have experienced several close encounters with accidents as a result of these defective problems!!. I have complained to our dealership where I purchased my car. But for some reason they couldn't get me in to check on my vehicle because of so many of the same issues I was told & also stated that it wasn't their fault to check with Chrysler Corp?? since then was almost killed twice (my whole family)!! merging onto I-20 in Georgia, going about 50 while merging when there was a tractor trailer moving up quickly in my rear view mirror I hit the gas but nothing happened!!! I started yelling oh my god my kids screamed daddy my wife screaming then, the car shuts off so now im without power, the truck started laying on his horn then there was blue smoke from the tires of the truck!! "twice" this has happened!!! other incidents, while pulling up to a stop sign or stop light while slowing to stop it would jerk then speed up sometimes throwing me into on coming traffic!! something has to happen!! this car is a death trap!!

Engine blocked needed to be replaced at 14,000 miles. Since engine was replaced the transmission is not shifting properly. 2 dealerships blamed the "adaptive transmission" for the issues. I have had the quick learn rolled back 3 times and car is still not shifting or stopping safely.

The contact owns a 2015 Chrysler 200. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 45 mph, the transmission independently shifted into neutral. The vehicle was maneuvered to the side of the road where the engine was turned off. The vehicle restarted as normal. The failure recurred whenever the vehicle was in operation. On a separate occasion while driving, the vehicle unintended increased acceleration. The failure also occurred when in the reverse position. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on five occasions but the failure was unable to be determined. Most recent, the contact received NHTSA campaign number: 15V470000 (electrical system) however, the part was unavailable to perform the repair. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 350. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

1.delayed/harsh shift from 2nd to 3rd gear. Especially harsh when the vehicle was cold. 2.vehicle lunges forward when downshifting rapidly. For example, if I was driving 55mph and had to stop quickly, as the transmission downshifted the entire vehicle would thrust/jump around 3rd-4th gears. It almost feels like the car is going to accelerate instead of stopping. 3.in a situation where the vehicle is slowed, but not stopped, and then accelerated (such as exiting a parking lot onto a major road), once the accelerator is applied, the engine rpms shoot up, but the transmission delays dramatically before upshifting, causing the vehicle to jerk. 4.at speeds between 24-26mph, the transmission jumps around wildly between gears causing the vehicle to jerk. After multiple service visits and software updates, the transmission and torque converter were replaced. The vehicle has been driven for over 3 weeks since this repair, and issues 2, 3 & 4 still exist. Other issues: 1.intermittent extended crank time'2-3 times longer than a typical crank before starting. A.engine code showed the dealership there had been extended crank times. Dealership attempted repairs, citing an oil pressure problem, but issue continued. B.on a separate service visit, we were told this was due to a recall and they were awaiting parts. C.recall work was performed around 12/1/15, but the issue still exists. The issue has actually gotten substantially worse since the weather has gotten cold. 5.'park' not engaging properly. When putting the vehicle into 'park', there was a loud clunking sound. When the brake was released, the car would roll forward. A.this issue seems to have been resolved by repairs around 12/1/15.

We purchesed a 2015 chyrsler 200 in April 2015. In July the check engine light came on so the car was taken in on July 25th for maintenace and state inspection as well due to engine light being on and car shifting hard. Recieved call on July 27th stating car was ready for pick. On 07/27/15 car was returned due to check engine light coming back on, at that time was told car needed a new transmisson. Car was returned on 07/30/15 with new transmission. Starting in mid November the car began to shift hard again, called dealership and scheduled car for service on 12/03/15, was told car was fine per computer system. Once car was picked up from dealership and driven we realized car was still shifting and jerking hard. Took car back to dealership on 12/15/15 was told car was fine and that three other cars were tested and all had the same shifting issue. As of 12/28/15 car is still shfiting and jerking very hard with no resolve.

After changing lanes on the freeway I turned left turn signal to off position and the right turn signal then came on. Turned the right one on then off to get it to stop and the left one came back on. Then they were switching between left and right with me doing nothing. Finally I thought to turn hazard lights on then off to see if that would work and it did. About 3 weeks later I was riding and my fiance was driving and the turn signal came on by itself while driving down the freeway. He had to turn them on and off several times to get them to actually turn off. On another occasion I was in my sister's driveway and put the car in park and pushed the button to turn the car off. The display on the dash said that the car had to be in park before it could be turned off. Since the car was already in park on the dial, I put it into reverse and back into park to try to get it to work and when that didn't work I put it into drive and moved slightly forward then put it back into park where it finally recognized that it was actually in park and allowed me to turn it off. I took the car to the dealership where they said that there were no error codes and they could not replicate the issues, but would make note of them.

I purchased my car in Sept. 2014. The car that I test drove was nothing like the car I got. When I mentioned the difference to the sales person, he stated that they were the same and that the car had to adjust to the way I drove. I took the car back to the dealer because they forgot to do service work on the car previously and the service manager stated that the car would feel better after 250 miles. I informed him that the car had 500 miles and he stated that it should "feel smoother soon." I took the car back up to mack haik Dodge in georgetown tx, where I purchased it and a manager told me that he would like to make things right and I should look for something that I liked and they would help me. The sales person that was going to "help" me was someone that I met at another dealership who told me that his wife had the same car and that half of them came out with problems and the other half was fine. He stated that I probably got one with problems. He stated that they were either great of had issues. I am now going to a different dealership to try and have the recall fixed. The recall is for the problem that I have been telling them for a year. At one point they told me that they could not fix anything because their transmission guy was out on sick leave. My car has been dangerous since I bought it. It hesitates when stepping on the accelerator on the highway. When the car starts out, it lunges forward and feels like a bucking horse. I was embarrassed to put people in my car. I worked with a government Agency that transported children and felt terrified to place a child in my car. Mack haik has been absolutely horrible. Their solution for my problem was to purchase another car with a $200 dollar more payment. I've been so frustrated that I considered a lemon law attorney. I contacted Chrysler and they said the dealer had to correct the problem. Can you help?

The power distribution center (pdc), shifter, parking break, transmission wire, power train, and engine stopped working on 12/05/15. The care completely shut down. I had it towed to a local dealer on 12/7/15. The worked on it all week through 12/10/15. The called me and told me everything was fixed. I came to pick it up, and I drove it back to work, to the store, then back home where it was parked over night. I wake up this morning to go to work and drop my girls off at school and the same thing happens. The car will not start, the brake is tight, the system is not detecting my key fob, and the care jerks a little bit and then dies. The dash will come on but the care will not shift out of park. I have it towed back to the dealership and they tell me "it worked last yesterday once we finished repairs.' I'm frustrated and made because I only received notification that 2 weeks ago that my car was up for a recall. Then the dealer's service department tell me it's under 2-3 recalls. My insurance will provide a rental car. However, since this is mechanical and not due to an accident I can't get a rental. I call the dealer to request a loaner car, and they tell me that Chrysler only provides them with five loaner cars, and they are currently being used for higher priority customers who major engine or transmission problems. If I read this one recall correct, one of the issues can cause me to hurt myself or others in a bad accident it this issue is not correct. To top it off they won't even provide me with a loaner car until they fix a problem that was caused in the manufacturing process. Chrysler tells me that they don't usually replace cars, as they probably will only make repairs to fix the problem. The dealer here tells me that the recalls were made in February 2015. Why wasn't I notified until recently. I could have seriously injured myself and my family. Very unhappy!

Car has terrible gas mileage. Well below govt average/window sticker. I was only getting 17 mpg where the min city rating was 23. After many visits to the dealer and dealing with the terrible Chrysler customer service, the service dept finally did the tsb that dealt with the transmission calibration. They reflashed/updated the trans software and now I'm getting 24 mpg which is the bare minimum I basically should get. Highway is still fairly below specs and I do not get near the combined 28 mpg either. I had almost 4700 miles on the car before they realized they needed to do the tsb on it. Now of course after spending much more money on gas than I should have, Chrysler doesn't care at all and basically laughed at me when I asked for fair compensation since it was their fault they let a car out of the factory that was not calibrated correctly nor did the dealer do the tsb before the car was sold. I doubt I'll ever buy another fca vehicle again in the future. Also the car had jerky transmission issues that prompted them to look into the trans to begin with then they found the tsb info.

Purchased 6/29/2015 had no issues with the car at all until I took it in for oil service on Nov 21st, 2015 and was told there was a software update that had to be done. (wasn't given an option). Since that update the car shifts extremely rough when down shifting from 2 to 1 and lurches violently forward, it also shifts hard from 1 to 2. the dealership gives you the explanation that I need to drive it 1K miles and it should be ok? it is a danger to drive and my wife won't use it.

I had a safety recall on my 200, take it to the dealership on Nov 18th, 2015. They reprogram module, powertrain control (PCM). Right after that my transmission started to act all crazy, not shifting right or down shifting. I called the dealership again, got it back on December 2nd, 2015. They said they re did the transmission and they have advised me to drive it like that for two weeks to relearn drivind and to bring it back if it doesn't improve. The car is acting even worse, the tachometer seems like it is not coordinated with the speed, the transmission seems like not releasing when I brake. I feel unsafe driving it, this is not the car I bought a year ago. I drive at least 50 miles per day in a car that doesn't give me a good feeling about it.
