Propulsion Power Reduced (PPR) = NO Propulsion at all! -
I've been reading other complaints over the past couple of days. As I was driving home from work just a couple of nights ago on a Rt 429 in Florida, my 2017 Volt LT suddenly lost ALL Power to the drivetrain. Fortunately, I was able to coast to the grassy/rocky median between the North and South bound lanes.
There was no warning, the vehicle had over 30 miles in battery and slightly less than 1/2 tank of gas and I have not had any mechanical issues with the vehicle prior to that, and have owned for a little more than one year. As I pulled over and came to a stop, I noticed the dashboard reading "Propulsion Power Reduced" along with the 'check engine' light on. The car would not start, I was able to put it in park, and I called On Star, who called a tow truck company as I called an Uber (yes, the Uber stopped in the middle of the highway to pick me up). The car was towed to a Chevy Dealership where it awaits diagnostics, so I have no idea where I stand right now.
I have called Chevy and filed a complaint. I am shocked and angered to see the number of complaints that are identical to mine regarding the Volt. Not only the 2017 model, but other model years as well. Therefore, this is a known issue. How can this car not have be recalled when it is subject to total drivetrain failure!!??
I had my children in the car just days earlier visiting their grandparents, and was on the Florida Turnpike. A complete propulsion failure could have been tragic. I will continue to pursue this and am seeking input as to how to file and/or join a class action suit. As other's have mentioned, I will have no confidence in driving this vehicle even after being told it is 'repaired', and am now seeking options as to how to safely sell. Chevy should buy this back as far as I am concerned as this is a tragedy waiting to happen.
