This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about the use of a Generation 1 Volt charge cord working with the Generation 2 Volt vehicle. The 120 volt Gen 1 portable charge cord will work and charge a Gen 2 Volt. However, General Motors does not recommend it since the Gen 2 portable charge cord has provisions in the charge plug to reduce an over-temperature condition due to a faulty or loose 120 volt wall plug.
