I was on my way home and stopped at a Subway to grab a sandwich real quick. Turned car off, immediately got out and remote-started it to keep it warm (it was about 10 degrees Fahrenheit at the time). Got back outside 5 minutes later and the check-engine light as well as the "battery charging" light were illuminated. Drove home quickly and arranged to have the vehicle towed the next morning because the 12V battery was testing lower than it should have and the error indicated it was not being charged, which I knew could result in the vehicle going dead on the road.
Dealer could not reproduce the problem, but found several old codes, all of which indicated that the computer got "confused" by being in an undefined state, probably because I remote started it so quickly after shutting it off. Codes never reappeared, but now I wait about 30 seconds after shutting it off before starting it again if I need to.
