My car started intermittently saying "service airbag" since around 55,000 miles. No at 88,000 miles it now is on nearly all the time. I have been told the fix for this is reinstalling the passenger seat cushion due to a bad design. This repair is about $1000 to fix a manufacturer defect.
'service airbag' appears on display when front passenger steps out of vehicle. When passenger steps back in vehicle and fastens seatbelt airbag off displayed on overhead display indicating airbag would not work in the event of a crash for passenger. Message usually disappears after cycling power on vehicle. Also with lightweight items on seat (10 lbs or so) message also appears and does not automatically remove without cycling power.
I have less than 40,000 miles in this vehicle. At approximately 35000 miles the warning light went on saying the airbag sensor was not working. I understand that a case has been opened and I would like to add my name to that case.
Same problem most everyone else is having. Service airbag message comes on frequently and red airbag light stays on. Started at around 85-90K miles. And no accidents. This is a safety issue and there needs to be a recall. How many complaints will it take? its a great car otherwise. Ford is much more proactive with safety recalls than GM.

My 2013 Chevy Volt is displaying a "service airbag" warning message. The local Chevy dealer confirmed that the passenger seat occupancy sensor, (specifically, the "passenger presence module"), needs to be replaced. Due to the faulty passenger occupancy sensing, the passenger side airbags are deactivated, even when a passenger is present. The warning message is present (and intermittently beeping) almost continuously when driving, and obscures information on the screen in front of the driver. The cost to replace the presence module will be about $600, and due to the nature of the design, there is no guarantee that the replacement module will not fail in the same way again shortly. I have not been able to determine another way to ensure that the passenger airbags stay on.
Service passenger airbag warning came on continuously. Two trips to the dealer, first time they tried to fix by cleaning a connection $196 and it did not work. Second time they had to replace the passenger presence sensor $636.70. This was not covered under warranty I was told. Car had 68514 miles and was in service 4 years.
My service airbag light has been coming on for months and I dont know why. I use this car for commuting and nothing has been done to the seat or car that would cause this service light to turn on. I have read on a few forums where this airbag light has came on for a few people and its leading to a sensor fix which can cost up to $1000. Has GM issued a recall on this problem since its a safety issue?
I recently noticed in my Chevy Volt passenger airbag sensor problems. Passenger front seat sensor for airbag system malfunctions, resulting in passenger airbag being turned off while adult passenger is in seat. This occurs when the vehicle is moving or stationary and both in town and on the highway.
Warning of faulty air bag on passenger side. Warning light will come on at times even if passenger seat is empty. This warning comes on at times when the vehicle is in motion and at other times when stationary.
The service airbag red light came on about 2 weeks ago. We brought it in to get checked and the Volt service center said the passenger side air bag was faulty including circuitry which will affect the front airbag from working properly too.
Passenger seat occupancy sensor intermittent failure. Should be added to investigation PE19013. Airbag light and service airbag message is on 7 out of 10 times the car is turned on and no passenger or item is in the passenger seat(while stationary). Light will turn off after several minutes of driving or applying force to the bottom of the empty passenger seat. Driving with a passenger the light is usually off, however sometimes it will come on with a passenger present and vehicle in motion, and can be resolved by the passenger shifting their weight a few times. Issue is too hard to demonstrate to dealer and would cost too much for me to bother repairing on my own. Other models from Chevrolet during that time period use the same sensor and have been recalled or are pending a recall. This problem first started when I purchased the car in 2016 but much more infrequently. It has become more and more common gradually ever since. Seat has not had anything spilled on it, or rain let in from open windows etc.
Passenger front seat occupancy sensor malfunctions which triggers the air bag warning light and disables the passenger front air bags. This randomly occurs when no one is in the seat and it will happen if the seat is occupied and the person in the seat moves
Passenger-side airbag gets an error because of a malfunctioning seat sensor. Happens whether someone is sitting in the seat or not. More times than not the airbag warning will go out after driving for a bit.
I started receiving a passenger airbag warning light on my dash. It seemed to happen mostly if I set something on the passenger seat and then removed it. I took it to the dealer and they said a sensor in the seat needed to be replaced and it was $1100
The service airbag light turns on intermittently. It only happens when something is either set on my passenger seat or if someone sits in that seat. It will happen at anytime, generally when going from park to driving.
My 2013 Chevy Volt has recently experienced some airbag warning light issues. The airbag light comes on for stretches of time and then disappears on its own. I drive 90% of the time without a front passenger and the airbag light has no pattern to when it comes on or goes off. It is completely random. So I stopped into my local dealer who stated there was no recall for this issue, so I went home and did some online research and found the following article: gmauthority.com/blog/2019/09/Chevrolet-Volt-under-investigation-for-airbag-warning-lights/ obviously there is an issue that Chevy needs to address, so I am filing a formal complaint regarding this issue and am requesting some help as how to address this with Chevrolet.
