The so-named fuel filler door is actually the charging port where the charging cable attaches to the car. What this has to do with the "check engine light" (that needs to be clear to pass state inspection) I just cannot comprehend.
GM got rid of the door in the 2012 model having experienced too many problems with the one on the 2011 that has a button in the interior to open. They went to a door that one just pushes in slightly to pop open.
