The first time I took it to the mechanic, he said it was the gas cap, and they put it on the computer, replaced the cap, and one week later the engine light comes back on. Took it back in December, they said there was a tank crack, they repaired it with epoxy, and another $500 later they said it was fixed, then 2 weeks later, the engine light comes back on and my gas tank won't show the gas level, and jumps back and forth from empty to full.
Even with only $20 worth of gas in it. I have heard that there was a recall on certain gas tanks because of a cracking problem, but I am not sure if that applies to my vehicle. Anyway... now the engine light is still on....
