A problem with the lock system has cause me, and others, physical pain. One day, I had locked the van while running an errand. When I got back to the car I used the fob to unlock the doors. When I tried to open the hatch, it was still locked. I repeatedly locked and unlocked the doors with the fob and by the driver side lock switch, but the only door that would unlock was the driver's. I must reach to the side doors and unlock them manually, as well as the passenger front.
The hatch area is a real pain in the ass, because the only way I could get the heavy items from back there was to lower the rumble seat, a hard chore because the latch for that is waaaaay down to the floor. When I finally get the seat down I have to pull the objects upon the seat back, then pull it onto the middle seat, then get out myself then get the object out. It would only be a nuisance issue if GM had put a KEY ENTRY on the damn hatch. If there is one, it's hiding and I cannot find it.
Now, I have physical ailments that limit my lifting abilities, my knees, back, shoulder, hips...I'm a mess and mental illness makes it worse because I get angry and frustrated easily. And here's the rub: when the locks DO work properly and I am able to place things in the hatch, they WON'T work when I get home. When they misbehave, as they usually do, I have a handful of things and am in pain from running the errand. I have contacted GM about this issue (as well as an alarm issue at the same time) and have done some checking. This is another problem that I am not alone in. Another issue I believe is a manufacturer problem, but when I contacted GM, they only apologized for the inconvenience and said they would authorize repairs, but they refused to pay for those repairs. I certainly cannot. I bought the vehicle used, and like the rest of the world, have bought it in good faith that the dealer had made sure that it was in good working order.
The van itself is in great shape considering it's age, but this problem and the other I consider a manufacturer defect. Since there are many other people having this problem I would think that GM would be right on top of it....Now that I think about it, I wonder if the alarm issue is connected to the lock issue...hmmmm.
