I purchased the auto 2/14/14. The lights on the vehicle never lit up at night, which made it very difficult and dangerous for me when driving after dark because I could not see how fast I was going or any warning lights to alert me to other problems.
One evening I was returning from a hospital visit and when I got into my car at the parking garage and turned on the switch, suddenly the dashboard lit up and then everything went dead. I called security to see if it was the battery, even though a new 6 year warranty battery had just been installed on 2/14/14, I was told that it was not the battery. I had to call a tow company to have it towed to their repair shop. They said that the battery terminals were loose and needed tightening and when he did that, the car began working again, but not the dashboard lighting. He said that he could fix it. I left the car with him and the next day everything seemed to be working fine, but he said that there were some codes that he still needed to check just to be sure, so he told me to take it home for the week-end and bring it back on Monday. I agreed.
I was delighted to see that everything seemed to work fine and continued to work all day Friday. Saturday afternoon at about 3pm, the engine light came back on. (It had been on throughout the time of purchase up until the Friday when I picked it up). I will be taking it back to the mechanic today. I am afraid to drive it because I don't want to be stranded when it dies on me or the dashboard suddenly stops working at night while I am in a rain storm.
The previous owner asked if I was using the radio when the car went dead. I said yes. She said that the radio drains the battery. I have never heard anything like that. When I viewed complaints about the Uplander online, I was amazed to see how many people are having the same problem(s) as me. (I am having other problems as well, which I will also add). This van really needs to be recalled before someone is seriously injured.
