Alternator failed out of the blue at 64000 miles. I've owned it since it had 47,000 miles on it and the battery has never been run down so the alternator has operated under normal conditions. The issue with alternator failures is that they have to get fixed immediately or you'll be walking. I ended up installing a remanufactured auto parts store alternator because Chevrolet Cadillac of La Quinta in California charges a little less than $700 for a new alternator. Not installed....just purchased. Thank God I did the work on my own. I can only imagine how much the labor would have added to that price.
