I would never have bought this 2012 Chevy Traverse if I'd known I was going to be shelling out nearly $2500 to fix a steering pump issue a few years later! I've read multiple Chevy forum complaints, including GM's own customer service site and I can't believe GM has not recalled the pumps for 2012! It's just insane how much this repair is costing the consumer. Steering pump AND rack and pinion repairs.
GM is obviously aware that there is an issue with their steering pumps, (given the numerous complaints online about this issue), yet they do nothing to recall the problem for the 2012 models. This is a seriously dangerous issue and needs to be addressed. Some people have gotten a whole 10% discount from the dealer, but so what! So they charge you 10% more on the repair to compensate for the 10% discount. What a joke! Clearly, the dealer is aware of the problem or they wouldn't offer a token compensation to keep their customers happy! 10% discount doesn't cut it after having to spend the equivalent of a month's rent or mortgage payment to fix a faulty steering pump!
Perhaps everyone with this issue should call GM customer service and make an official complaint, then contact their State's Attorney General's office and file an official consumer complaint on the grounds of potential bodily injury and exorbitant repair costs. The squeaky wheel gets the oil...or a recall!
