Steering this car at first is a pain in the ass when you first start out driving. It is hard to turn, but the more you drive the easier it gets.

I have been reading a lot of forums that talk about 210 and 2011 chevy traverse engine failures between 80k miles and 110k miles. Mine made it to 138k Miles and cannot believe GM doesn't have a lawsuit by now. This is ridiculous! My wife's car has 300k miles and just changed the transmission, but same old engine running strong ( Hyundai sonata ). I replaced the power steering pump after 136k miles then less than 2 months after engine upper piston rod went bad, needed a new engine . I changed the oil religiously every 5k miles with fully synthetic mobile one oil 5w 30. I could understand if I neglected my truck, but this is 100% a lemon and something should be done. Never buying a Chevy again!!

I called gm about steering pump problem and they said they has issued a safety recall not a total recall and said I was 1000 miles over to get them to fix problem. it shouldn't matter how many miles your over if they know it is an ongoing problem with thousands of cars they should fix it regardless. I had an accident due to this issue all the sudden I could not turn and hit several things and side of the road. they are a billion dollar company and they can't help they people who make them rich & fix the problem they caused. I think everyone who is having this problem with the traverse should be compensated for the fix. I don't have the money to fix the problem so now I don't have a vehicle. ITS BADDDD!!!!!!!!!!!

I've had this 2011 traverse for almost 5 years. For the past several months it's been making an annoying whining noise, especially when I turn. I took it to the garage today to get checked, they tell me the pump is shot and the rack and pinion needs replaced. Fluid is leaking too. And it's going to cost over $2000 to fix it. GM parts are around $700, rest will be labor. My husband looked it up, said it looks like a pain to fix - labor intensive. I guess the steering has always been a bit whiny, but thought it was because of the AWD. Now I know! I was going to be getting a new vehicle soon, now I think I'll be driving it a while longer! I really like the Traverse & will probably get another.

My wife's Traverse started whining, took it in to have it looked at and needed new power steering pump and gear assembly. For it being a 2011 with 35,000 miles that is unacceptable. I have been told by multiple garages that this is a common problem. I am furious at Chevy for a cheaply made vehicle.

While driving my 2011 Traverse, I suddenly lost power steering whenever making turns on the road and while trying to park it in my driveway. I am reading online that I am far from the only Traverse owner with this complaint. My Traverse is currently at the garage and have not heard back yet on the findings, but upon reading other similar complaints, am fearful it is going to be a very EXPENSIVE repair. It has become evident as I have been researching this problem that it is a big issue amongst Traverse owners and poses VERY SIGNIFICANT safety risk. I had my children in the car and immediately parked it and didn't drive again until I drove it to the dealer as I am fearful of driving it. Chevy needs to TAKE RESPONSIBILITY and stand behind this issue and recall affected vehicles before someone is seriously injured or killed.

Traverse 3.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 34,500 miles

My mother bought the car about 4 months ago. I drove it for the first time on 12/20/2014. I was taking my wife and niece and nephew for a free Santa toy give away. I started out going down the road fine. We get almost to our destination (about 35 miles away) when the steering started to act up. I noticed it when I got off the highway. I had 4 more miles to go. We reach our destination and I check the fluid.

First off, there really needs to be something done about this problem. I could not steer the vehicle into a parking lot unless I put it in neutral and gassed on it to get the rpm's up to drive the pump. I finally got ready to leave and the vehicle seemed fine. I figured there was an air bubble in the system that had to work its way out. Started back on the highway again and noticed it did it one more time. I almost wrecked the car 6 times before I got it home due to the steering issue. It has NO POWER STEERING AT ALL!!! Checked everything over and noticed nothing. I am an A.S.E certified technician, I know steering. It's going into the dealer Friday 12/26/2014.

My biggest problem with this is this is suppose to be a safe vehicle. The crash test ratings are good. Why hasn't GM put a recall out for the steering issue? This is an ongoing thing with these vehicles. I understand safety recalls are a big deal, but this could also be life or death!!! If GM don't put out a recall on, I will purchase a Dodge and be happy. At least when Dodge has a problem they fix it!!! I have always been a Chevy or GM fan, but this will be my last if GM doesn't do something about this. They clearly know there is a problem. When are they going to make it right and help the people that are having the problems with their vehicles. Dodge, Ford, Honda, Even Kia puts recalls in place when there is a problem like this. Get with the program GM!!! Maybe the government shouldn't have bought you out!!!

Traverse LT 3.6L

  • Automatic transmission

In August of 2013 my power steering vanished. Took it to the dealership & had the pump replaced. I was told this is very uncommon. However, in November 2014 I get a letter from Chevrolet stating there have been a few complaints & if you believe your power steering is faulty please return it for a free repair. Sure enough I took my car to the dealership 11/19 and the power steering pump has failed yet again!! I am still waiting for my car & am being told I may need to pay for this. The dealership says that there have been no complaints about the power steering pumps. Like all the other folks complaining it started being noticed on right turns. What on earth is wrong with CHEVY & these pumps? I bought this particular SUV because it is 75% built in America. Trying to help our economy. This is a serious issue & a recall needs to be implemented!!! Just sayin'

Traverse LS

  • Automatic transmission
  • 45,700 miles

Complete loss of power steering fluid, vehicle became hard to control and required significant effort to turn the steering wheel. Definitely a safety problem. Luckily, was driving on a street in a quiet neighborhood, not too many cars and obstacles to avoid. With great effort made it home. Waiting for a dealer appointment in a few days, car is not drivable.

Should not be happening at such low mileage(45,700 miles, less than 4 years in service). Found many similar complaints from other owners, hope GM acts soon before someone gets seriously hurt when car becomes difficult to handle in heavy traffic.

FORCE A GOVERNMENT RECALL !!! IF THIS HAS HAPPENED TO YOU, FILE YOUR COMPLAINT !!!

And file on SafeCar.gov. If more people file it might force Chevy or gov to do a recall. Save your receipts, you will get your money back. Very dangerous problem.

OF COURSE NOT UNDER WARRANTY. On one website there were over 300 postings just on this Steering Problem. Before someone is badly hurt or killed we need to do something.
