We bought this car a few years ago from the dealership in Lee Summit Mo. The salesman said it was only driven by the owners wife. We loved it. Now a few years later we have relocated to Denver and there are a few noises. Squeaky noise when steering and suspension also squeaky. Air conditioner wasn't blowing cold and we are taking a road trip (air already recharged last year) so we took it into a well known brand name shop to have it checked.

We were not prepared for $2,000 of fixes it needs. 1) The air cond. discharge line is leaking, $375. A/C evacuate and recharge $170. 2) rack and pinion leaking $1,189. 3) Ball joints (lower front left) has play $242.00, brake fluid exchange $80. Plus a few other regular things like alignment , oil change and front brakes too.

We are going to take this to the dealer and see what they can do for us. As I check out the web I see that this is a common issue and lawsuits are possible. This dealership has already been good to us so I'm going to hope this will be ok, today at 69,585 miles. We take it to the dealership this Tuesday to confirm. I will update after the appointment.

I will admit that had I know all the issues this car has we would have looked for a different car. All other recalls have been fixed. The original dealer said today that our drive train warranty, and all parts that get oiled, ran out this past March. Will dealership be sympathetic and give us a break or bend us over as we see a lot of shops do to people. Let's hope we are pleasantly surprised and they treat us right again. Update next week.

I bought this 2010 Traverse in 2013 as a certified used vehicle. I really wish I had gone for the extended warranty - now I know why the dealer tried to sell me the warranty on this vehicle (which they didn't do for my other car at all).

The steering first developed a problem soon after we bought it. The power steering pump was replaced under warranty at the time. Unfortunately, at 65k miles or so the power steering rack has developed a leak and has to be replaced at a whopping cost of over $1500. The dealer wants to give us a reconditioned rack too, which probably has the same design flaw as the first one - there's no way the steering rack should be leaking at 65k.

I really loved this vehicle when I first bought it, but now I wish had gotten a Honda Pilot or Toyota instead.

There's apparently an ongoing class action lawsuit against GM for steering issues over safety and cost.

I just took my 2010 Chev Traverse in today, April 28, 2015 to have the whining noise checked out. I was told that the problem is with the power steering and on my invoice bulletin #14329 was indicated. It appears that there have been many complaints about the same thing.

What is GM waiting for before they have a recall? Are they waiting for accidents to happen and resulting deaths before they wake up and fix the problem. It would seem to me that a fix before anything happens is a lot less expensive than lawsuits that could occur and lives lost. I would hope that the CEO of GM would appreciate a fix before expensive lawsuits.

Took car to fix Check Engine issue (timing belt); was informed that there was a fluid leak with the power steering gear and was going to cost $1,400 to repair. Hard to believe that this would happen at 34,000 miles. Chevy got the repair cost down to $900 stating that they have seen issues like this with the Chevy Traverse and for which Chevy covered the repair cost for some VINs, but ours was not covered. Looking at the various posts on this issue; the potential for loss of power steering while moving is very scary. Surprised there hasn't been a recall as of yet.

Heard a whining noise when driving. Took the car in the last week of the year for all the recalls and asked them to check the whining noise. It is the power steering pump which is covered under a recall. HOWEVER, the dealer indicated the steering rack o-rings were leaking and the line taking the fluid from the rack to the pump and back were leaking. Estimate of the repair $1000. Again the replacement of the pump is covered but not the leaks.

This is a 4 year old car now....why would this be leaking???? I keep my cars for 10 years. Have not had this issue with other cars. I am sorry we purchased a 2010 Chevy Traverse! Poor choice, too many issues with a car that was not cheap!

Update from Jan 3, 2015: so took the car to another mechanic and apparently it is the rack that is leaking the power steering fluid, so a new one is needed. How does this happen on a 4 year old car????? Repairs will run close to $1000 as estimate. Ridiculous. If I could go back 4 years, I would walk away and not buy this car. I cannot believe how much additional money we have had to sink into this car for repairs not covered under warranty or recalls. WALK AWAY from any 2010 Traverse. Not sure if they have fixed the problems on later years!

2010 Traverse w/76k miles.

Power steering pump replaced at 70k for $800. Later received letter from GM that pump was reimbursable, but not a recall. Currently going through reimbursement red tape.

Now, the power steering rack & pinion needs replacement for $1200. A "Senior Mgr" at GM Priority Care (oxymoron) states they will NOT cover this although it's part of power steering system. The audacity of GM to claim they'll cover one part of a known power steering issue but not the other is laughable.

Have since discovered the info about a class action lawsuit against GM for Traverse power steering issues.

Meanwhile, there's a transmission leak AND engine block oil seal leak, both of which are covered under the power train.

Finally, there's an AC condenser hose leak that's not covered and is $300.

The car has been in the shop for nine days with no defined date for the work to be completed.

This car is a heap of junk.

Suggestions for convincing GM it's their responsibility to cover ALL steering issues?

I bought my 2010 Traverse in Dec 2009 and really loved the performance and gas mileage I get, and still get. The problem I have is whenever I take it back to the dealer for routine maintenance they always tell me the steering rack has a leak and they would recommend replacing the unit because the seal cannot be repaired and the brake booster pump needs to be replaced too! Cost estimate of over 2K. I checked the symptoms of each of these problems and I haven't experienced any of them..Is this a scam or am I just lucky?

I noticed there have been many problems reported concerning the steering rack and there may be a class action suit filed. If so I would be happy to be included..
