The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer ext. During the winter, the speedometer malfunctions. The dial will show 100 mph when the vehicle is traveling 50 mph. The dealer stated that a new speedometer was needed at the cost of $500. The dealer information was unavailable. The current mileage was 83,216 and failure mileage was 47,000.
2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer ext speedometer does indicate correct speed. Operation is intermittent. With cruise control on, indication is from 0 mph to pegged out, with needle fluctuating. No accidents, injuries, or speeding tickets, yet!!!
Speedometer stuck and is pointing straight down. At first it was stuck at 80mph and then just fell all the way to the bottom. Now it does not work at all. My 2004 trailblazer only has 50K miles.
I purchased my 04 trailblazer in may of 07. Up until July there where no problems. Since then my speedometer and gas gauges have been acting up. On many occasions they give the wrong readings. I have been stopped twice for speeding when I did not think I was because of the wrong reading. Last week on 5 Sep 07 the speedometer completely froze giving me no reading at all. Since then the needle has started moving but is no where near the correct reading.
The speedometer went to 120 and stayed for a couple of days and then slowly came back down but when traveling 5 mph it will say 40 to 90 depends how it feels. GM will not back up under warrant. Vehicle is out of warranty but seems to be a common problem with Chevrolet trucks...vehicle is a 2004 trailblazer, with 40,000 mi..

I have a 2004 Trailblazer ext and a 2004 crew cab Silverado. Both of my speedometer are sticking on both vehicles. I have not taking to the dealership but from my research on the web it looks like it is going to cost me a lot of money.
At approximately 36,000 miles the speedometer on my Chevy trailblazer started acting funny. At approximately 40,000 miles it started to get stuck. At 45,000 miles it stopped working altogether. It is now stuck in the down position pointing toward the instrument panel. I have spoken to numerous Chevy trailblazer owners and have visited a number of online discussion groups and have found out that a number of people have had this same problem. This is a very serious safety issue, which can lead to injury or death.
This is the second complaint I am submitting about the speedometer on my Chevy trailblazer. I just wanted to include some links to customer discussion forums, in which you can see that this speedometer is a big problem. GM tries to ignore the problem and most customers have no outlet to vent their problems, outside of the dealership who is trying to hide the problem. Please take a look at some of these discussions and you will see how GM is ignoring this very serious problem. www.topix.net/forum/autos/Chevrolet-Avalanche/tji11lgm9554mernatownhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.F0fb75B.
Transmission shifts hard from 1st to 2nd, sometimes when at a stop it stalls before taking off, sometimes RPM bottoms out. 4 wheel drive only used about 3 or 4 times, each time it stalled before going into 4 wheel then would not come out of 4 wheel for about 2 or 3 minutes.
