CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2002-2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer is known for many things, but perhaps it is most famous for its faulty fuel gauge.
This gauge flip-flops more than a politician during election season. Some report that the gauge says "empty" after a fill-up, while others report the gauge says "full" when they're running on fumes. Either way, there's one thing everyone seems to agree on: the darn thing is just wrong.
Following hundreds of complaints and a few accidents allegedly caused by the malfunction, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opened an investigation into the issue in May 2011. Unfortunately for frustrated owners, no recall has been announced.
Helpfull Hint - Sometimes on the check engine light thing. I got this hint from a guy when I got my oil changed in Lubbock, Texas. While parked safely, turn your engine off for 10 seconds, then turn your ignition key just to the on position, before you engage the starter, press your gas accelerator peddle three (3) times turn ignition off then start the car. check engine light goes out. Sounds weird, I know, but I have done this several times with successful results. Doesn't work for every thing, but---- hey, if it works once better to have tried it right?

Issues with fuel gauge started by showing empty and fuel light coming on when tank was full. After reviewing a LOT of websites, it seems like Chevy is fully aware of the problem. No recall but a warranty extension? Now the check engine light is on. Chevy should pony up some support to fix their faulty equipment!
I purchased a 2007 Trailblazer from a car dealer about 2 months ago. I was very satisfied with it until last week the fuel gauge started acting up. I filled the gas tank and after driving only 20 miles my low fuel light came on and the fuel gauge indicated tank empty. After researching it is ridiculous that Chevy will not recall for a fix or at least fix the ones that are defective at no cost to the owner. GM has to realize repeat business will be greatly affected because their competition makes a more reliable product. I will not be buying another GM product and I will do all I can to spread the word to neighbors, facebook friends, and family.
My gas gauge started acting funny and seemed to be inaccurate for about a week. Then it really started to not work. One minute it was full and then empty, back to full. Just filled the tank and put the car in park and the gauge would drop to empty and the bell would ring. My kids are so scared to ride in the car, they're not sure what is going on or if they will make it to where we are headed. So now my kids have lost total faith in the car.
Taking it in next Wednesday and the dealership can't even tell me how much it will cost but they do know others have come in with the same problem. They looked up my Vin number and said that mine shouldn't be having this problem. They could tell because of the Vin. Well I think they need to widen their scope of problems and just recall and fix everyone's for free. Even when this gets fixed I hope my kids will feel comfortable riding in the car and not be scared.
I work at a GM facility and the engineers say Oh Yeah when you mention this problem. Poor switches and components such as motors were used. GM should really do a recall on this.

My 07 chevy Trailblazer gas gauge stopped working with only 37k miles. sometimes the check engine light comes on then goes off atfer about 70 miles after a fill up. I've checked around and this repair cost about $600. There should be a recall! Over 500 complaints are online.
I have read that this is a major problem with the 2007 Trailblazers. Chevrolet sent a letter saying they would pay for half of the $900.00 repair. If they are willing to pay for half, they realize there is a problem and should recall the darn thing!
can't afford the fix, we did receive a letter from GM stating we could take in to be fixed, they would pay for the part, we pay for labor or vice versa, can't remember but do remember they estimated our cost would be close to 600.00. I have to use my tripometer to gauge my fuel usage. scary because depending on different situations the mileage usage varies. using air, wintertime warm up ideling, etc. I cannot believe with all the complaints they are not recalling this vehicle for complete zero cost to the customer since it is clearly a vehicle default. other than this problem I love my trailblazer and I would buy another, if I was shown that they stand by their products. we are a gm family.
My 2007 Trailblazer just started doing this yesterday. I had half a tank of gas and needed to fill up for a trip. As soon as I did, the gas gauge went to FUEL LOW with the light on and the check engine light came on. After a few minutes of driving the gauge registered FULL, but now every time I start the engine it's back to FUEL LOW.
As most everyone who owns this vehicle reports, the fuel gauge reads empty when it has gas and full when it does not. This is a tragedy waiting to happen especially for someone like myself who is disabled and can't afford to have it fixed.
Appreciated partial reimbursement but should have been TOTAL REIMBURSEMENT. AFTER ALL, I DID NOT PAY 1/2 THE COST OF THIS VEHICLE WHEN I MADE THE PURCHASE.
This is just another problem I have had with my Trailblazer after rolling over 100K miles. I know someone with a Trailblazer that is a 2005 and he has had every one of the same problems that I have. I know some parts will just wear out, but Fuel Modules should not go bad that fast. I have been thinking about purchasing a new vehicle and I am leaning away from Chevy for the first time in my life.
Fuel Gauge light is ALWAYS ON low fuel even after you put gas in the SUV!! Think that it's crazy for the amount of money we have been quoted to fix this issue. Seems like with all the complaints that GM would WAKE UP and take care of their problems!
I will NEVER buy another GM product! I've had to replace the fuel pump just two months after initial purchase. Another month later my fuel gauge stops working. I left my window half cracked open one rainy day and my door buttons stopped working. I had to buy a new unit ($200), fine... but then I have to take it in to get the stupid thing programmed!!?!?! Another $200 dollars.To me, a little peon, that's just GM's way of getting more money. I've had a light go out on my dash. I've had to replace a belt tensioner. My driver side door is just enough not aligned that on windy days It sounds like a freight train because of the wind noise buffeting on the door. I had to replace my battery and in doing so, apparently there is some known problem that can cause your dashboard vents to stop working! Yes, you read that correctly! Replacing my car battery caused my dashboard vents to stop working! I had to jerry rig my vents so that now they always stay on. My sunroof started not working because a small little plastic part that broke. I go to the dealer, and wouldn't you know it, they don't sell just the plastic part, you have to buy the whole sunroof unit!!! I don't even want to know what that costs. I absolutely HATE my trailblazer. I hate GM for taking government money. The quality of this car is so pathetic it makes me wonder how ANY of these cars get off the lot... I feel truly sorry for any poor sap who makes a GM purchase.
I lived in the desert where temps are above 115 degrees considerable as we need not get stranded in the Death of this heat as a result of a faulty deceptive General Motors gas gauge which you can't know if what appears is truthful or designed to kill you in some manifestation of ERROR.
General Motors needs to act before the end result is a lapse on the part of this corporation that's been bailed out itself of destruction and in return it would leave those taxpayers with it's vehicle needing a bail out before Sudden Destruction prevails....HELP!!!!!!!
My gas gauge reads empty. The only way to determine how much gasoline is to keep resetting the trip. I have a 16 year old daughter out at night in my car. I'm afraid she will get stranded and I don't have the $$$ to get this fixed. If I knew about this, I would have never bought a Trailblazer.
I have taken my vehicle to two mechanics who tell me the same thing. This is a very common problem with this vehicle. Contact Chevrolet and complain or wait for a recall. The problem is I will not get an inspection sticker next month because it set off the check engine light and Massachusetts does not issue a clear inspection sticker with a check engine light on. The repair calls to remove the fuel tank and replace the fuel sensor inside the tank. about $1200 to fix.
