CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2002-2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer is known for many things, but perhaps it is most famous for its faulty fuel gauge.

This gauge flip-flops more than a politician during election season. Some report that the gauge says "empty" after a fill-up, while others report the gauge says "full" when they're running on fumes. Either way, there's one thing everyone seems to agree on: the darn thing is just wrong.

Following hundreds of complaints and a few accidents allegedly caused by the malfunction, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opened an investigation into the issue in May 2011. Unfortunately for frustrated owners, no recall has been announced.

I love my 06 Chevy Trailblazer better than my Grand Prix. IT is very comfortable for me being female and extremely practical. And I love the outer body design, very sharp! I like sitting up high.HOWEVER! Like most on here, my fuel gauge quit working at about 60000 miles. I have not had it fixed because of lack of time and it's very costly to get it fixed! Is there a recall on this issue? I was almost rear ended, thank God for AAA! Now I rely on my mileage for fuel! This is absurd and nuts! Why on earth can't they build cars to be dependable and safe? NEVER MIND all the fancy crap that most vehicles today have such as heated seats, and TV electronics, just build a car that is reliable, and has a safe body cage in case of roll over accidents like race cars! Also, why can't they build a vehicle that will SHUT DOWN ALL CELL PHONES when either the engine starts or when you put it in "D"! I'm sick of everyone driving carelessly while they talk on their cell phones! But most of all, I am here to complain about my fuel gauge not working! C"MON GM! This is 2010!

I am sick of having electrical problems with this TrailBlazer. The door module that is connected to the radio, interior lights, and windows quit working and had to be replaced. Then, something shorted out in behind the heater controls and melted wires and stuff and shorted out the heater 2x. Now the fule gage is not working correctly. I fill it up and it goes to E! and the check engine light comes on with this.

This was really awful to guess how much gas in in the car. Afraid of running out of gas while traveling home from work at night. The dealer is stating that you will just have to fix it.

I am having the same problem that everyone else has listed with the fuel gauge. It is really a pain in the ass trying to figure out how much gas is suppose to be in your vehicle when you are paying a car note every month. And let's not mention the headache of having to pay to get the problem fixed that should be recalled.

If this has happened several times to other people as I'm beginning to discover it has then Chevy needs to fix it. I'm not paying $500 for a problem they are aware of!

The first time I knew something was wrong was when I just finished filling my tank started my truck and the fuel gauge was still reading empty. I would have to turn the truck off and on just to get it to read the gas in the truck and then it still was reading the fuel level wrong. Sometimes it would jump to the correct fuel level at least I think it was correct about 20 minutes after driving. Then it just stop working completely. Now I have to watch my miles just so I know when I need to fill up. I is the biggest pain in the butt. I have not ran out of gas yet but that's only because I know how many gallons of gas my truck holds and how many gallons it gets to the mile. So every 275 miles I know I have to fill all the way up and reset my mileage. I hate it because i can't just put 10 or 20 dollars in because then I dont know how much gas I have.

With as many people that is having problems with this GM really needs to have this recalled. I have taking my truck into chevy to have it looked at and was told it will cost me $600 to have it fix and of course it's not covered under the GM Certification and since I didn't have the money right then to have them fix it I still had to pay the $67.50 for the diagnostics. I love my truck but this is really pissing me off. I think its crazy that it is taking GM so long to recall this part. The investigation for it to be recalled has been open since January 7,2010 and with as many complaint as there has been there should be no reason it should still be open. This part should have been recall a long time ago seeing that people have been making complaints about it for years.

Gas Gage has stopped working and stays on empty with the light on all the time. I have contacted Chevrolet, but they want me to have it hooked up to see what the problem is. I called the dealer and they wanted $100.00 just to hook it up. I called Chevrolet back and they said they would not cover it and they could not promise that they would fix the problem.

This is not the only Chevrolet we have had to have the same problem. I let them know that I would never make the mistake again on buying their cars.

Does anyone know who we can contact about trying to get them to have a recall for this problem??? I'm sure if we all stick together and send in our complaints then something will have to be done.

I wish I did some research on this SUV before I selected it but I've been lucky so far because from what I've read this model has a lot of issues that should have been recalled. My issue started two years ago with my fuel gauge .. wow how time flies.. Initially when I had it checked out by an auto repair shop they told me it was probably the gas float on the fuel pump which is located in the gas tank and that it would have cost $300 to get repaired. I declined so I've been using my mileage to track on how much fuel I have .. Had to run out the 1st time to determine the overall miles before going empty and luckily I have free road service with my insurance company but it's getting to be a pain in the ass ..by the way I'm getting between 17-18 miles per gallon which equals to almost 390- 400 miles before I'm empty so when I'm close to 350 I full up again and reset my miles to zero. Anyhow just recently I've taken it in again and was told that it's the cluster not the gas float. I did some reach and found lots of service places that repair the cluster which controls all of the gauges much cheaper than $300 - $ 700 repairs jobs that I have read about. The problems seems to be bad stepper motors that control each gauge on the cluster. I found a site that will check it out for free and will do a full rebuilt of the 7 - 8 motors including anything else on the cluster for $170... It even has a link to show you how to remove the cluster so that you don't have to pay a mechanic and their turn around for repair is 24hrs at no extra cost. plus you can still drive the vehicle but have to track you speed by GPS or by instinct. To all my fellow Chevy Trailblazer friends here is the url to their site.. I hope I've been some help with the BS we all got stuck with... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/02-2003-2004-2005-CHEVROLET-TRAILBLAZER-CLUSTER-SERVICE_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem5637add4b5QQitemZ370301326517QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

Chevy step up to the bat and fix this problem. I purchased this vehicle and shortly after, the problems began, the fuel gauge doesn't work, the other warning lights come on for no reason. It really sucks not to have a fuel gauge, I have to keep track of the mileage hoping I do not run out of gas.

There have been so many complaints about this issue, like other 06 Trailblazer drivers my fuel gage does not work. I use the trip mileage to gauge my gas, I have only run out once. This is an outrage that Chevrolet will not recall this vehicle to fix this issue. This is a factory design issue with the ethanol in the gas reacting with the fuel assembly. THIS HAS TO BE RECALLED I am looking for anyone who has information on how to get our complaints heard to Chevrolet ,if I have to start a lawsuit petition to get this done I will. Congress gave them tons of money and they wonder why Honda or Toyota are doing much better it is because they put out a much better product. I am a previous Honda accord owner and I had no problems just regular maintenance on the vehicle. I want to start an internet petition if you are interested email me at Tjenkins_76@att.net if we can get enough people then I want to start a group on Facebook called Recall 06 Trailblazers to gain more attention to our issue.

The trailblazer for the most part is a good running vehicle. I have about 114,000 on it and beside tires only a few hundred dollars in repairs. But yeah the damn gas light and gauge!!!! I thought it wouldn't be too bad to fix but they said 600.00 so I thought well thats a lot of gas money I'll just deal with it and figure out my milage. A lot of good that does when your sitting on side of the road telling yourself you know you had at least 30 more mile before you needed gas! Come on Chevy just fix it for us, these Toyota fans will never let us forget that their company stood by them while mine left me on side the road!

I love or should I say "loved" the Chevy Blazer type vehicles until now! This is the second Chevy Blazer that I've owned in recent years in which the fuel sensor went out. My first was a 1999 Chevy Blazer and currently is a 2006 Chevy Trailblazer's sensor just went out. When it happened I was shocked beyond belief!! With the '99 sensor out I had to live by my odometer for years. I was so glad to rid myself of that problem when I traded it in for the '06. Now with less than 50, 000 miles on this SUV I'm experiencing the problem again. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL 10 YEARS AGO...I CAN'T BELIEVE THESE GREEDY PEOPLE AREN'T WILLING TO HELP THEIR MOST LOYAL CUSTOMERS...CAN YOU?

It sounds like everybody with a trailblazer will deal with this issue. Why they are not standing behind such a blatant shortcoming is unacceptable. Do not buy a Trailblazer. They are poorly built substandard vehicles. I was a loyal GM customer for the past 25 years and 10 vehicles. This one is the last. I have had other problems and Chevrolet is not the same company it once was. Quality, service, costs, and support are not what they used to be. I have another issue in which I have waited 14 months for a part, still don't have it, and cannot get an answer as to when it might be available. The dealers are trying but Chevrolet dropped the ball.

Trailblazer LE L6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 55,000 miles

About 55000 miles I had noticed the heater blower quit working. I stopped and filed up before getting to work. While reading about replacing the blower resistor assembly, I was trouble-shooting that problem when I noticed the Fuel Gauge showed E with the light on and ding ding ding. After deciding that I had no fuel leak and driving out a couple gallons of gas, the gauge started reading correctly. It only happens now when I fill-up. Everyone tells me the repair involves removing the fuel and dropping the fuel tank to get to the sending unit and the repair is rather expensive. I do like the Trailblazer, but I am ready to get away from Chevy as I am also replacing the Flasher switch in my '04 Malibu to get the turn signals working correctly again.

Bought a used 2006 Chevy TB and didn't purchase an extended warranty (painful lesson) for a previous Toyota owner. Replaced the Idler Pulley that went out at 38K miles $$. Now the auto sensor has gone bad at 39K miles and is about $700 bucks. Currently unemployed so money is tight and will have to keep filling up to make sure it's full for now. Arrrgggh what a disappointment. Next car will definitely be a Toyota. Previously owned a Toyota Celica and put 270K miles on it. During 15 years, replaced the starter and alternator but never any other major problems. This is my lesson for supporting an American automaker. Never, never again.
