CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2002-2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer is known for many things, but perhaps it is most famous for its faulty fuel gauge.

This gauge flip-flops more than a politician during election season. Some report that the gauge says "empty" after a fill-up, while others report the gauge says "full" when they're running on fumes. Either way, there's one thing everyone seems to agree on: the darn thing is just wrong.

Following hundreds of complaints and a few accidents allegedly caused by the malfunction, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opened an investigation into the issue in May 2011. Unfortunately for frustrated owners, no recall has been announced.

The gas gauge on my 2005 chev.trail Blazer always reads empty even if I fill it. It has been faulty for over 2 years. I have on 4 different occasions run out of fuel. When contacting a dealership they said it was not covered under warranty and would be roughly $900 to fix. The vehicle will read empty all the time causing stalling with no re start.

2005 Trailblazer with 50K miles gas gauge went crazy and now stays on "empty" with the gas gauge light on all the time. They say it's the sensor/pump and it's a $600 fix B/C they have to drop the tank. 1,000S of complaints and no recall"???" bad business GM!!!

05 Chevrolet Trailblazer fuel gauge shifts back and forth between empty and half a tank. It started doing this at about 60000 miles. We never know how much gas we have in the tank, and have to set the trip meter every time we fill up. I know several people with the same problem in their Trailblazers. We need a recall!!

Chevrolet Trailblazer faulty fuel gauge. My check engine light came on and later my gas gauge on my car started acting strange. Now when I fill up my vehicle it goes to empty and the light/warning comes on telling me I have no gas. After driving the vehicle the gauge will go to what the level is but sometimes it does not. We have to keep the trip meter on so we know how much gas we have left based on the mileage. I have checked and I would need to pay alot to get this problem fixed, so I have chosen to deal with it based on the mileage. I have read alot of people are having the same issues with their trail Blazer. I believe with all the people who are having the same problems that this should be recalled. I drive alot and am worried that I will be on the highway sometime and run out of gas. This would not be good as I travel from Wisconsin to Illinois alot and there really are not alot of places to get off the highway. So this problem poses a big issue to me. I think that GMC should own up and fix this issue with their vehicles.

Fuel sensor inaccurate in 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer; occurs constantly, it is never correct, must use odometer reset. Nothing has been done to correct it because my dealer advised that they have repaired several in the last 6 months. It is an expensive repair.

The gas/fuel gauge does not show correct amount of fuel in the tank. It show very little gas ( and mileage available) when the gas tank is full. Or it show no gas at all - and the "low fuel " light comes on even if the tank was just filled up.

I drive a 2005 Chevrolet trail Blazer. The gas gauge is wildly inaccurate. In fact, when I was driving the vehicle, I ran out of gas. It was in the evening during the cold Michigan winter and I had my 6 month old daughter with me in her car seat. The gauge does not provide me with an accurate idea of how much fuel is left in the tank and I am forced to either use my odometer or just make an educated guess. This is a safety hazard which needs to be addressed.

2005 4.6 V6 Chevy Trailblazer ls; fuel gauge sensor does not work. To replace you have to replace the whole unit at a cost well over $500. When will a recall be done. Gas gauge suddenly stopped working. Filled car, gas light came on and gauge dropped to E. began floating between full and half full, then back to E. a few days later, back to working it seemed. Then, driving down highway about 65 miles per hour, car suddenly shuts down, no power, barely got off road without being rear ended. Sat with no heat in freezing weather waiting for help, barely off the side of highway.

Purchased my veh in 2006 and soon after this my fuel gauge stopped working. Had it replaced by a local repair center. A few months after this the fuel gauge stopped working and had the repair center inspect the vehicle and they informed me that in both instances the fuel sending unit had gone bad. They informed me that the whole unit needed to be replaced at a cost of appoximately $600. I opted to replace the unit my self after purchasing the unit from a Chevrolet dealership for half the price. Now my fuel gauge has gone bad for a third time and now have to replace the whole unit. After doing some reasearch online, I find that my vehicle is not the only one with this problem and GM is not doing anything to assist their customers.

I am having the same problem with my 2005 TB(fuel level sensor replaced) and the dealership advised me it would cost $900 to fix. I called the GM warranty line in detroit and was told to take it back to the dealership and pay another diagnostic fee and have them send the paperwork to them. They said they could not promise anything but at least there would be a record of me trying to get the problem fixed. I say recall the vehicles and fix the problem for everyone since this is a known problem.
