CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2002-2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer is known for many things, but perhaps it is most famous for its faulty fuel gauge.

This gauge flip-flops more than a politician during election season. Some report that the gauge says "empty" after a fill-up, while others report the gauge says "full" when they're running on fumes. Either way, there's one thing everyone seems to agree on: the darn thing is just wrong.

Following hundreds of complaints and a few accidents allegedly caused by the malfunction, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opened an investigation into the issue in May 2011. Unfortunately for frustrated owners, no recall has been announced.

My trailblazer will not start if I don't start it and run it everyday!! Even if I turn everything off it still has something that is killing my battery. It also dies at stop lights and signs if I have the heater and defrost on!!! During the time the heater and defrost are on, it will accelerate the rpms as I drive and this is not good driving on slick mountainous roads.

Recently I took it to a local Chevy dealer to see if they could help. Putting it on the computer costs $98 an hour and I told them I didn't have $200 or $300 to sit on the computer and then $200 or $300 in labor plus all the parts, could they please try to keep the cost down. They put it on the computer for 15 minutes and told me the only thing wrong was my battery was bad, the battery is less than six months old and is the third battery for this car in a year and a half of owning it. After having it on the computer (if that's what they really did) now all of the symptoms are much, much worse, plus now my gas tank continually reads empty if the car is running and sitting still!! Most of the time I have used less than four gallons of a full tank when this happens!!

I still owe $8,887.00 on this car and I cannot trade because I can't afford the $565.00 payment due to owing so much on this one yet. Chevrolet says there are no recalls on my car but, I don't see how there isn't when so much is going wrong!! Can someone please point me in the right direction for repair that isn't going to bankrupt me or cost more than the car is worth??!!??

So sick and tired of Gm and their lack of responsibility to fix the problems on vehicles! It should not take people dying in order for them to make these issues right! Especially when there are so many complaints about the same vehicle!

I have had the speedometer problem, dealer covered $400 of the cost to replace the entire instrument cluster. Also have the fuel level sensor, dealer will cover the entire cost of pulling the fuel tank to replace the level sensor. Current problem is the battery slowly discharging. Will drop low enough over night, that car may not start. Down to about 11.9 volts. I have to disconnect the positive terminal of the battery to stop the discharge. If I leave the positive attached, and disconnect the negative, I can still read .7 to 1.1 volts going to frame ground. Removed every fuse, one at a time, and still read voltage with ground wire disconnected from battery. Battery is only 2 years old and in good condition. As I was looking for problem, reconnected battery, took car out of park, and problem went away. Did not have a chance yet to check the park/neutral switch on the transmission yet. Wiring looks good in that area. Very frustrating as voltage bleed is low, so it does not blow a fuse. I think I would rather have a fuse blow, then would know what circuit to look at. Additional problem just started, with car occasionally stalling when coming to stop. Rpms will drop to 500 and car stalls. Will start back up. This only seems to happen when defroster in on. Occasionally the air compressor comes on during a defrost cycle, and that's when it seems to stall. Leaving defrost off seems to work for now. Have to check compressor, may be failing and slowing engine when it comes on. I have been a chevy customer all of my adult life and currently have five older chevy 4x4's. This trailblazer may end my desire to buy a newer one. The older ones are much better, you can fix yourself. The mechanics of today are just module replacers. The computer tells them what is wrong and they replace the entire module. Like the entire instrument cluster to fix a speedometer problem. Good Luck to 2005 trailblazer owners, as in 2005 they put the fuel filter in the fuel pump module, in the fuel tank. To change the fuel filter, that tank has to come out and the "fuel pump module" is around $500. The filer is not a separate part. So a fuel filter change could cost you around $1000. I wish Chevrolet would just "man up" and fix all these problems. I guess losing thousands of customers, does not bother them. I think that making vehicles, with all the new, not proven technology, is what people want is not the case. Yes some of the new features are nice, but not at the cost of not working, or causing problems that they can not fix. People are not stupid and are capable of monitoring their vehicle. One last example of my frustration. If you have a complete electrical failure, you can not turn the key and take transmission out of park. How do you tow it? someone has to disable switch to take it out of park. Frustrated in Pennsylvania.

Update from Jan 29, 2014: Went to dealer today to fix problems. They did fix fuel level sensor at no charge. They had to pull gas tank to do that. They did a complete computer scan of car and found no voltage leaks to frame ground. Cleaned throttle body because of some carbon buildup. They did find that battery is bad. Only 2 years old and reads proper voltages, but does not hold huge cranking amperage. So tomorrow brings trip to Auto Zone to see if battery has any warranty left. The vehicle ran very good on way home, but still have to see if it will start in morning.

IF YOU FORGET TO TURN OFF ANYTHING SUCH AS THE RADIO, AIR CONDITIOER OR HEATER, OR JUST ANYTHING YOU CAN BET YOU'LL HAVE A DEAD BATTERY THE NEXT DAY. THE BATTERY IS NEW SO THAT IS NOT THE PROBLEM. THIS HAS HAPPENED MORE THAN ONCE AND I SWEAR I DIDN'T LEAVE ANYTHING ON BUT ONCE MY SON SAID THE AIR WAS ON WHEN THE SUV WAS JUMPED AND STARTED. I DON'T EVEN USE THE AIR BECAUSE OF THE GAS COSTS.
