CarComplaints.com Notes: Carrying the not-so-proud traditions of its 2002 predecessor, the 2003 has a handful of instrument panel malfunctions that can leave you guessing your speed, engine temperature or how much gas is left in the tank.

Have a 2003 Chevy trail Blazer and the gas tank is leaking from the top. I understand that there is a tsb # 05012 out on this issue. I had recently been at my dealer to get the check engine light checked. They said that I needed to replace the compressor right away. Well that was over a year ago and it is still working just fine..that was not the problem. Seems there are a lot of us out there who have this leaking gas tank problem.

I own a 2003 Chevy Trailblazer. I have been smelling gas fumes for the last couple of years and when I have taken to the local dealerships they stated that it was just "spillage and normal" for that type of car. My check engine light stays on and I have been told by autozone personnel that the "code" indicates some kind of emissions leak. When reviewing the open complaints, I noticed that there are many complaints very similar to what I have been experiencing. It is mostly when I fill up my gas tank over 1/2 a tank. I am afraid to fill it up full due to the heavy smell of gas.

2003 Trailblazer - reduced engine power light present when started. Would accelerate to 15mph. Rattle or grinding noise when braking or driving over bumps. Drove to beaty Chevrolet knoxville tn tues, 2/7/06. Replaced throttle assembly & advised noise was from misaligned hood. Trailblazer picked up on fri, 2/10/06. Paid $200. Ext warranty ded. Gas empty stopped to fill up. While driving noticed fuel gauge past full mark, appeared to be pointing straight down. Noticed tachometer registered 6500 rpms. Called beaty Chevrolet. Service department closed. Next day fuel gauge appears correct. After a week refueled and noticed fuel gauge was incorrect again. Noticed strong gas odor when vehicle is started & vehicle smoking. Called to schedule repairs on 2/28/06. Was unable to make appointment rescheduled for tues 3/9/06. Beaty informed that it must be guage sensor and not related to previous repair work so another $200. Deductible would be due. They were unable to detect fuel odor nor smoking. I disagreed with the $200 charge due to vehicle being defective when I picked it up from the service department on the first visit. Beaty chev. Said they did not look at the tachometer nor fuel gauge when they service vehicles so they would not have known about the problem. Lol.. I called GM warranty and they would not waive the $200 and said the dealership would be responsible. I contacted the dealership again and they thought GM would waived because of the numerous problems with the guage sensors. However they would not admit that they did not check the vehicle when it was being repaired the first visit. I have read numerous complaints regarding reduced power throttle assembly, guage malfunctions, and grinding noise when braking and feel that GM should recall and reimburse the consumer for the repairs they have paid. Vehicle is still making grinding noise and now seems to lunge forward when brake is released. I need help and any advice you have to offer.

I have a 03 TB 2wd I have noticed recently that it is not changing gears properly. The service engine light came on and the problem appeared three more times. Then the light went off and the problem went away. I took it to the dealer and they hooked it up to the "machine" and all they could find wrong was my O2 sensor. They said I needed to replace the gas sensor. This has nothing to do with the transmission.(this is what they said) they told me that they were not worried about it. I told them I was about to drive the car on a trip 1,000 miles one way. No problems they said. I called and questioned the dealership and he acted very surprised by this. Says he hasn't seen a "problem" with the transmission. One of my co-workers daughter also has a Trailblazer and hers has started to act up as well, and guess what it is the same thing as mine. I went on this web site and found out that this is a common problem with the TB. Is there anything that can be done about this madness? townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.EF15323/65.

When filling up my gas tank, it regularly overflows before the automatic shut off a the pump. This problem has occurred at various gas stations, and from research, found that this is common problem. This is extremely dangerous as gas will often spill on my clothes, shoes and the side of the vehicle. Not to mention the astronomical cost of gas these days! I can't afford this problem. How can it be fixed and if it's a common problem, why hasn't a recall been issued?

Consumer was stopped by a police officer, who informed consumer that the tail lights were out. Vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that tail lights needed to be replaced. Also, vehicle stalled while driving at any speed. The vehicle would hesitate and skip upon acceleration, at stop signs. Traffic lights and while parking on inclines. Multiple components were replaced to correct the problem but they recurred. The radio became extremely hot while driving on long trips. The radio was replaced but the problem continued. The A/C unit failed intermittently because of a faulty A/C switch. The consumer mentioned fuel system problems.

I attempted to fuel the vehicle. Every time I attempted, the pump would shut off as if an overflow were happening. This is not the first time. The dealer had advised me that it had fixed the problem when advised of it on a previous occasion. Usually happens when the engine hasn't been running for very long.

When filling the fuel tank on 2003 Trailblazers with fuel pump equipped with "accordion" neck sleeves, fuel has the possibility of back flushing out the top of the tank neck. I experience this on multiple gas stations here in California with multiple 2003 Trailblazers. About 1 cup of gasoline flows over the intake and on to the car and ground causing a serious hazard. The back flow spill does not seem to occur on every type of fuel pump, but only on those equipped with certain sleeves over the nozzle. Other Trailblazer owners I have talked to in my area also experience this problem. The dealer has not only not been able to duplicate the problem at their local station but has no remedy for the multiple times we have brought the vehicle in for service.
