CarComplaints.com Notes: The Trailblazer emerged from an "upscale trim line" of the Blazer, but there's nothing upscale about its transmission problems or its wonky, unpredictable headlights.

About These NHTSA Complaints:
This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
The passenger side seat belt retractor locks up with out cause.the passenger has to unbuckle the seat belt to release the lock. Dealer has checked and offered to replace for $300. I declined.
Sharp turn steering locks up. Passenger seat belt gets tighter and tighter doesn't release pressure. 4 wheel drive not working. Tapping sound in engine. The only thing the dealer has done is replace power steering pump and within 5 miles it was not working again.
Transmission went out couldn't drive-repaired/ rear window won't roll-up/seatbelt won't retract, later fixed, but still won't work on occasion/ brake lights have gone out 5+ times repaired still not operational/ water pump exploded/rear window won't lock first try/ check engine llight stays on.
The passenger seat belt retractor is designed to lock and not release if the shoulder belt is pulled all the way out. This creates a saftey hazard. If the passenger has to reach for something that casuses the shoulder belt to extend completly, you then have to unbuckle the seat belt, retract it, then rebuckle the belt. If this occurs while the car is in motion, the passenger is open to injury should an impact occur at the time the belt is unbuckled. If the belt is not unbuckled to release the retractor, it is extrememly uncomfortable to sit in the seat as the belt will prevent any forward movement. I believe this to be a flaw in the design of the seat belt and not a feature as General Motors describes it. This occurs on any GM seat where the belt is integrated with the seat rather than mounted to the framework of the car.
