Bought my 2018 Tahoe used in January of 2022. First hot day in July of that year, I turned on the AC and nothing but hot air came out. Called the dealership I bought it from and of course they swear it was working just fine when they put it out on the lot. I honestly cannot remember if I tested it when I was test driving it because it was cold and snowing. So it didn’t cross my mind. I have since read that the AC condenser going bad is a common issue to have, in my POS 2018 Tahoe.
I went to the Chevrolet dealership thinking my A/C issue was just loss of freon. The service department called and said the condenser needed to be replaced because most likely a rock hit it. Then they said the freon was very expensive since my Tahoe was a 2018 at $500. The total cost for repair was over $1700. I refused service and took it to a certified mechanic who worked for Toyota service departments for 20 years and then GM for 13 years. He inspected and said it was because of failed drier welds and there was not a hole in site (pictures to prove it).
I started my research and found out that from 2014-2017 a class action lawsuit was in place for condensers failing and GM had to provide 5-year warranty to those customers for certain models. https://www.carcomplaints.com/news/2018/gm-ac-compressor-condenser-problems-lawsuit.shtml
I filed a claim with GM and I will speak with the GM of the dealership to start the process admitting the condenser problem is not fixed in the 2018 models. Come on GM, after 6 years of issues you can't figure out the problem with your engineer who designs these vehicles? Sounds like they are trying to make money off these failures. Here is a thought... try making a quality vehicle, so you have less hassle in the long run.
