My vehicle started to jerk really bad while driving as well as coming out of a stop. Brought it to the dealership where I was informed that the transmission had to be replaced. I filed a complaint with GM. They would not honor a full free replacement but agreeed to pay half of the $9,600 bill. I had no choice but to fix it as it is my only vehicle. It took 3 months of my vehicle sitting at the dealership but I now have a newly rebuilt transmission with an extended warranty for another 100,000 miles. Not confident it will make it to that.

Tahoe Z71

  • Automatic transmission
  • 84,866 miles

How it started:

Vehicle was idling in park, in a parking lot, as it was put into drive there was a loud clunk, then pressing the accelerator the vehicle would not move. Put the vehicle back in park, then reverse, this time the transmission engaged backwards, shifted to drive, it moved normally pulled out into traffic. Then no longer did the gas pedal and the transmission communicate!

Safety was put at risk when pulling into traffic and then being in the traffic when suddenly, pressing the accelerator the car was no longer moving forward, with other vehicles coming in the rear.

Immediately I put on the flashers, bringing the vehicle to a complete stop in traffic in the middle of the lane as the vehicle would not move at all. Putting me in danger of being rear-ended by the vehicle(s) behind me. Additionally, safety could have been at all times depending on situation and location.

Dealership Service Diagnosis, complete transmission failure, likely torque converter issue (known problem), entire transmission was replaced with remanufactured. Warranty, just expired December 2022. Removing transmission, damaged muffler, had to be replaced adding more insult to injury.

Total bill was over $7K with remanufactured tranny and the muffler that was damaged removing the tranny.

There was no previous notice that this even was going to occur, no lamps, signs, check engine light, symptoms nor any error codes produced just prior to this event nor do I believe at the time the vehicle arrived at the dealership on January 26.

Reported to GM and NHTSA (if you had this problem with your powertrain (https://www.nhtsa.gov/report-a-safety-problem#index). The more complaints, maybe a recall!
