My rear liftgate and window for my 2005 Chevy Tahoe will not unlock. This is a dangerous issue. I've read a blog of almost 300 different owners that are having this issue...www.chefseattle.com/blog/site-news/Suburban-rear-liftgate-wont-unlock-how-to-fix. is Chevrolet going to be held responsible for this issue" what if there is an accident or fire in the vehicle and people need to escape through the rear liftgate door? is it going to take a death for someone to address this issue instead of charging owners almost $500 to fix this even though it is not our fault"

The safety issue here is the fact that GM door actuators do not work properly. GM is not recalling the parts and this has been going on for years. Doors will not lock, or open consistently, and they do not cover the repairs unless you have the original factory warranty or it might be covered on major guard which they don't even offer on my vehicle. The internet is filled with thousands of people with the issue. People can be carjacked, or their vehicles stolen because their door locks won't function. GM just flat out does not care, and the problem isn't just on the Tahoe & Suburban lines. Here are just a few links out there on this issue. townhall-talk.edmunds.com/webx"14@@.F206D4B/0 www.chevymalibuforum.com/forums/showthread.php"T=7950 and here's someone who appears to have a fix, get rid of the cheap chinese parts. www.greenhybrid.com/discuss/F69/Tahoe-door-lock-actuator-problem-solution-27064/ the fact that this business practice is allowed to continue seems absurd. This part needs to be fixed and a recall issued. At a minimum it should be covered by GM for all failures on all vehicles.

We have a 2005 Chevy Tahoe and we recently encountered a problem - the liftgate will not unlock. We discovered that is no manual key entry and there is no internal unlock system. This is a major safety issue : repeat: There is no internal unlock system which is a huge safety issue in the event of an emergency exit needed - especially with the third seat installed. The only way to unlock the liftgate is via remote key - but the lock does not respond to the remote key so the liftgate cannot open. There are tremendous amounts of complaints posted on the internet forums and we can not believe that there is no recall on this horribly unsafe situation - not to mention equipment failure. What is being done about it? thank you.

I had noticed that on my 2005 Chevy Tahoe I was not able to open the tailgate it seemed to be locked, I tried to unlock it manually and it would not unlock from driver door when you hit to unlock everything manually. I also cannot push the button and open the glass manually either. Nor can I open it from crawling inside the truck to try to push the tailgate open. So if there was a accident there seems to be no way of getting out through the back entrance which is scary. I have tried multiple times to open it and it will not open, I cannot for any reason use the back tailgate anymore which I find a inconvenience and was one of the reasons I bought the truck in the first place.

We own a 2005 Chevy Tahoe. Rear hatch lock actuator assembly failed, causing the rear door to be stuck in the locked and closed position. There is no manual release from the inside, nor a manual keyhole to unlock from the outside, which poses a safety hazard. Current and failure mileage 89,160. Vehicle was taken to dealer who charged $626 to replace assembly.

Own a 2005 Chevy Tahoe, the rear liftgate and window will not open using the unlock on the door or depressing the key fob. Has worked without a problem and all of a sudden quit today. We checked all of the fuses and then began searching on the internet. Have read similar problems and am assuming it is an internal part. However, there is no way to open the door from the outside or inside manually. I often carry my daughter and up to 5 other girl scouts. In case of an accident, there is no way to exit the vehicle from the rear. This is a safety issue and should be addressed by Chevy. Don't know if new versions have a manual unlock, but is a hazard for those models that don't.

The lift gate on my Chevy Tahoe will not open. I was washing G my truck and went to open the back and it would not budge. I called Chevy and they said the locking mechanism would have to be replaced. If my children and I were in an accident and we couldn't get out the front we would not be able to get out the back either. There is not a manual override.

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that she attempted to open the rear lift gate using the key fob but the lift gate would not open. She then attempted to open the rear lift gate by depressing the manual button which controls it from inside the vehicle but to no avail. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where they were in the process of diagnosing the failure. The contact was awaiting repairs. The failure and current mileage was 98,400.
