1999 Chevy Tahoe. 4X4 rear brake lock up uncontrollably during first 10 or so stops, smashing occupants forward...brakes have been inspected, bled ect ect...but problem remains...months and hundreds of dollars later it still does it.
At any speed, brakes only work if pedal is pushed to floor, need lots of stopping time. Dealer said that was the way Tahoe's work. Finally replaced them somewhere else. They used an upgrade that they said Tahoe have for the 2000 year. Also both back drums cracked.
Braking system malfunctioned, causing extended stopping distance and noises, such as brakes "chattering" while braking. Dealer replaced the brake pads and shoes/drums and master cylinder. But, problem still exists.
Warping of front discs/rear drums and premature wear of pads/shoes @ 15K miles. Dealership aware that there is an issue but not covered under warranty except unwritten 12/12. Had rotors and drums turned and new pads installed. Problem has been corrected and will hopefully last.
