ABS will work intermittently when applying brakes. Pedal goes hard, then brakes will work. Once ABS failed completely. ABS failed again going through a 4 way stop, luckily there was no traffic at the time.

Braking system malfunctioned, causing extended stopping distance and noises, such as brakes "chattering" while braking. Dealer replaced the brake pads and shoes/drums and master cylinder. But, problem still exists.

We purchased the 1999 Tahoe in June, 1998. We had the rotors turned in December 1998 and then replaced Aug. 1999. This should not happen on a new vehicle, let alone one that costs as much as the Tahoe. The brake pedal was going to the floor and the vehicle was not stopping very good, especially at a speed greater than 40 mph. The brakes were bled in the summer of 1999. That seemed to help for a while. But the problem seemed to reappear. We took the truck back to our dealer. They then replaced the brake master cylinder. That seemed to help. But I feel the brake system still is not a good system when you must press the pedal down so far to get a good stop. The manifold gaskets also had to already be replaced. For a fairly new and expensive vehicle, we have had alot of problems with this particular vehicle. (we had a 1995 Chevy Suburban before, and we had no problems with it. We really liked the braking system on it and wish we had never traded for the Tahoe.) one thing I noticed on your recalls, on the 1998 Tahoe, there was a recall on the rotors and braking system. Since our truck was built early in May 1998, and listed as 1999, could we have possibly inherited the same problems as the 1998 Tahoe? I would love to purchase a 2000 Tahoe, but hesitate because of the braking system they may have. Please inform me if there could be a recall on our model and year. I feel the 1998 recall should be extended to the 1999 since everything on the vehicles are the same.

You need to pump the brakes in order to feel responsive/ I'm told I'ts normal /uniroyal factory tires are all ready breaking down at sidewalls at 5,000 miles/told it is normal/air constantly comes through center lower vent when system is shut down, told this is also normal... I disagree thank-you( dot number: 00000000 tire size: 16 )

ABS brake problems: When applying the brakes under normal braking conditions, vehicle is slow in stopping. This happens while traveling on smooth road surfaces and no inclement weather. It seems as though the braking system is inadequate for the truck. Dealership stated that the brake system is working as it was designed.

I had only the vehicle a couple two or three months when one day I found myself in a situation to have to make an emergency stop while going about 35 mph, when I stomped on the brakes the rear brakes locked up and the tires skid and screeched. The front end went to the right and the rear end went to the left on the inside lane of a four lane street which put the front end in the right same direction lane and the rear end in the inside on-coming lane. It really scared me as I expected a true straight forward stop without any skidding. Also at times when the brakes are applied normally they at any speed the brakes will pull hard on the steering wheel either left or right. One never knows until the brakes are applied. I have this vehicle into three different dealership service departments several times for repair of this and many other things over the past year while working with the Chevrolet customer assistance office. Finally I was allowed to meet with the South central region area service manager for General Motors. He drove the vehicle and about lost control of the vehicle while making a simulated emergency stop. He has advised me that it was normal. I do not agree with him as I have and have had other vehicles with anti-lock brakes that have responded like that. I feel like the vehicle is defective and dangerous. I requested GM to purchase the vehicle back from me for that reason and they have refused.
