Vehicle goes into ABS mode at slow speed stop. On dry driveway almost ran into my own door. Took the vehicle to the Chevrolet dealer and brake system was inspected. Found it necessary to replace both front speed sensors. Also had to replace 1 broken caliper bolt as necessary. Total cost $697.47. Recall was issued for 1.35 million trucks and SUVS for brake sensors. Our truck being a 1999 Tahoe was not covered. All other Chevy trucks were.

GM issued a recall #05068 on over 800,000 trucks & SUVS involving improper ABS activation at low/slow speeds. (NHTSA campaign id #05V379000). I took my 1999 chev Tahoe to the dealer today for the repair, and was told this recall did not effect my vehicle, that it did not include my VIN #. the service person said he did observe the fact that my vehicle indeed has the problem, but they cannot fix it per GM's guidelines. I do not understand how - if it is evident the vehicle has the unsafe equipment/actions that warrant the recall, how can it be excluded from the recall" as of this date, I do not have an auto accident and/or personal injury on record due to the fact that I have learned to adjust my driving to avoid the obvious fact that, yes, I would have one or two rear-end accidents a week if I did not. This vehicle was purchased by me Dec 2004 and was a problem from the beginning. We did not immediately have the money to pay to have it fixed. My husband was checking to see if the wiper system had been recalled for some reason as they rarely work, when he discovered the brake problem was being investigated. So we have waited this process out, only to discover it does not include our Tahoe. As a matter of fact, when he printed the recall information out on 9/29/05, it listed the 1999 Tahoe, but now as of today, it has been changed to 2000 and newer. How can that be when my vehicle has the problem"

1999 Chevrolet Tahoe with 49,000 miles anti lock brakes sensors activating at speeds under 10 mph. Took to dealer for repair at our expense, we were told this vehicle was not part of a recall. GM is now trying to offer us 25% of our cost. This is not acceptable since this is a safety issue. My wife almost drove through the garage door one day. (incident date is being listed as date of repair, the vehicle had many incidents were the sensors failed.

Within the past 2 weeks, my 1999 Chevy Tahoe began experiencing a problem with the ABS brakes. When slowing down and performing normal braking prior to coming to a stop, the ABS kicks in at very low speed (<5mph) and the brakes essentially fail. I contacted my dealer about this problem and they said the 1999 Tahoe (old style) is not covered under a recall.

On 1/27/06 I took my vehicle to a certified mechanic for a problem with my ABS. He informed me that there was a problem with corrosion on the sensors causing the ABS to activate at slow speed. He disassembled, cleaned and reassembled the sensor for a cost of $148. I drove it again and the same problem occurred. I looked to see if there was information about the problem. I found a recall NHTSA # 05V379000 GM campaign # 05068. I took the vehicle to a Chevrolet dealer today for a diagnosis and was told I needed a hub assembly which would cost $350 labor $180 and that my VIN number was not included in the recall. As of today 1.4 million trucks and SUV's are recalled with the same problem. I called GM customer service and was told that because I did not buy the vehicle new and did not have it continually serviced at the dealer there was nothing that they could do. I don't understand how they can pick and choose vehicles to be covered by this recall. My vehicle falls into the category of every stipulation except for the VIN number.

I brought my 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe to alexandria Buick-Pontiac-GMC in alexandria, Virginia on December 14, 2005 because the ABS light kept coming on in the dashboard. Mechanic diagnosis was speed sensors were missing. He replaced the hub assemblies and speed sensors. Total repair was $1064.54. I then found out that a recall on the problem I had just repaired was going on in the "rust belt" states and Canada. The recall was for the whole northeast part of the country down to and including Washington DC. I work in Washington and live about 5 miles from the city. I wrote the GM claims department with copies of every receipt and a copy of the recall letter. They contacted me and told me the repair was indeed one included within the recall, but they were denying the claim because I live in Virginia and the recall is only valid in "salt belt" states of Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Massachusetts, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia. I want the recall to be opened back up and to include additional states. I spend every single day in Washington, what makes my claim any different from the person that lives 5 miles away from me, but happens to live across the state border" what is different from someone who lives in Washington and works in Virginia" since my home address was Virginia, my claim was denied. The recall campaign # is 05V379000. The engine light illuminated, the serpentine belt was repalced. The water pump was leaking abd the pinion seal was replaced. Updated 02/09/06.

There has been a recall issued for 2000-2002 Tahoe for front wheel speed sensor corrosion (product safety recall 05068) from GM. This should have also included the 1999 Tahoe. This ABS issue is currently happening to my Tahoe. Its been occurring since the middle of 2005. I heard of the upcoming safety recall back in August 2005. But when I took my 1999 Tahoe to the dealership, they stated my VIN# was not on the list for recalls. When I looked deeper into this recall, it only includes 2000-2002 Tahoe. I know of this happening on another 1999 Tahoe sport. It would be nice to have GM expand the recall coverage to include all 1999 Tahoe.

There was NHTSA recall campaign 05V379000 regarding the ABS brakes. The vehicle had the same problems as indicated in the recall; however it was not included in the recall due to the VIN. There were no injuries, and police report was required. The dealer repaired the vehicle as instructed in the recall. Updated 01/25/06.
