Buying an old 2-door Tahoe comes with ups and downs. I love her like my children, but she's going to dig into my wallet from time to time. The previous owner had the engine rebuilt on my truck, and I had the top end rebuilt as well. However, through all that work, no mechanic who looked at the engine ever realized the water pump should have been replaced at least at one of the two rebuild times. The original one finally sprung a fairly significant leak and had to be replaced. I cannot stress this enough... it was the OEM factory water pump installed in 1997 that was reused across multiple rebuilds and was still operating as normal until 297k miles. Call the Smithsonian. It's been replaced now and is running fine.
