I think I was lucky to have my A/C work for as long as it did. I used to work in the chauffeured transportation business and know a lot of 2015-2016 suburban where the a/c went out with very low mileage.
Bought this vehicle new six years ago, and this is the fifth time that that A/C has failed. This is clearly a manufacturing/design issue. I get no help from the dealer - one time they even said that a $1K bill was not much compared to the $60K+ price of the truck!
There was no mention of the TSB for the condenser leak issue that came out in 2018. My condenser was replaced in 2019 at full price (over $1,100). This will absolutely be the last GM vehicle I ever own. 5 times in 6 years is just too much.
I'm really pissed that GM did not recall the affected GM models. The sheer number of failure reports certainly let them know there is a serious defect in the condenser for which they are responsible. Since they knew about a well known component defect and did not have a general recall to replace the part, this will certainly be a consideration in my next auto purchase.
It was just a matter of time, or should I say, a matter of bad Chevy warranty luck. At just 3.5 years old my 2016 Chevy Suburban LT 4x4 AC went out. I found the NON RECALL of the cracked weld in the corner of my condenser. So I took it to the shop and, yes, that was the problem - SHOCKER.
Well, I bought the part and paid Chevy to replace and refill so that if they ever did do a recall, I could get my money back and they would warranty the work. I love buying a 50k car and then rebuilding it 3 years later.

When we had asked about it we were told we were out of warranty but since we don't have the money to fix it yet we have just been adding refrigerant to limp us through. The refrigerant lasts roughly a month before it blows hot air again. We have a large family and live in Florida and this is out only vehicle that holds everyone so we have to have cold air. This is a very large inconvenience at this time, especially with young children and a pandemic.
The Vehicle was serviced in early December 2019 and was checked over received transmission fluid change, oil change and other services. Had the brake readjustment recall serviced on vehicle. Asked for it to be checked over because inside front tires show wear. They said everything good with suspension, steering and brakes will need replaced soon. Said to get it lined up after putting new tires on. I replaced tires and had lined up.
March 9, 2020 - Brakes started to make noise, Had GM garage change brakes and rotors. Asked them to check over vehicle. Said all suspension and steering components good.
April 22, 2020 - Took vehicle to GM garage because I noticed last week during warmer days the air conditioning wasn't getting cool. AND the brakes ABS engages when backing up at a slow speed. I am told the Brakes Vacuum mechanism needs replaced and will be covered under warranty.
The air condition issue is a bad condensor and it is not under warranty. I reminded the service advisor that I received a Service Bulletin in the mail concerning the Air Conditioning Condenser problem and that it stated if no issues present not to bring to GM Service that the issue was extended past the normal warranty period to cover if problem occurs in the future. I provided him the literature I found on the internet. He said he was unaware. He is going to get back with me but says it is not covered.
Then he tells me that my front struts are busted... I asked how is that possible when the truck was serviced no more that 200 miles ago and they said all components were fine.
He said he needs to review everything with his mechanic and will call me back
Since 2016 I have been driving this vehicle and since then today is my 3rd time dealing with the same problem. It gets very expensive trying to replace the same issue over and over again. Especially now during COVID when I am out of work it is very hard to get it changed. The part is not even available in the store to get it changed because of COVID. It has been extremely hard for my kids and myself to travel anywhere in this heat!
Traveling with 4 kids on the way home from Disney World and boom just pure heat coming out. No warning at all! Recharge has only been Temporary help (2 days at a time). I see there is a recall for 2015 models, but not the 2016’s. Hopefully this won’t cost too much to fix:(
There is a recall via a class action lawsuit citing that 2016 Chevy Suburbans have seriously defective A/C issues with leaks, loss of pressure, cooling issues. My vehicle was purchased brand new now less than three years old. No recall letter was sent to me regarding this defective part which h as s been affected due to the ill creation, installation on behalf of the manufacturer. This needs to be repaired immediately at no cost to me.
The vehicles have a serious defect that causes the air conditioning systems to crack and leak refrigerant, lose pressure, and fail to function properly to provide cooled air into the vehicles. These failures lead owners and lessees to incur significant costs for repair, often successive repairs as the repaired parts prove defective as well.
A/C stopped working, blowing hot air. Immediately contacted dealer for appointment. Told the service rep, I had been reading about this online (this website 2015s seem to have issue too) and did he know anything. Of course not, it would be $220 for diagnostics on A/C. He called back later, said the condenser needed to be replaced - and there would be NO CHARGE. There was a "SPECIAL GM PROGRAM" that covered the issue. So I am guessing, that GM knows there is a defect, and instead of a recall, that would be extremely costly, they are just fixing them for free as they arrive.
The vehicle was no longer under warranty due to mileage.

The ac failed right after the transmission. Dealer wanted 4,000.00 to fix the ac.
