This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
The dashboard is severely cracked in multiple spots. I fear if involved in an accident my airbags would be compromised. Not to mention one crack is on the passenger airbag which is recalled due to the takata inflators recall that seems to never be resolved. I am aware of many GMC/Chevrolet owners that have this issue.
The dashboard cap cracked for no reason at the corner of the airbag and above the instrument panel. If the airbag deploys there will be plastic from the dashboard cap blown all over the interior of the cabin during an accident.
Cracked dash above the instrument panel and passenger side airbag. This poses a safety issue. My dash is crack so badly, I'm afraid the airbag will come out on its own. It is downright negligent that someone will have to get seriously injured or killed before this problem is taken seriously.
The dashboard is cracking near instrument panel and passenger airbag causing a debris concern during normal vehicle operation and/or airbag deployment.
Vehicle developed crack across dashboard between passenger airbag and windshield vent panel. Vehicle was stationary and parked in shade when damage occurred.
For the past few months my 2011 Suburban will randomly not want to shift from park into drive. The gear shifter acts like it is stuck. I have to pump the brake several times before it will engage. Over the weekend my husband had my car keys in his pocket, our 4 year old son climbed into the drivers seat and started to hop over the center console to get to passenger side. My husband was getting in immediately after him to sit in drivers seat. When my son hopped over, he accidently grabbed the gear shifter and my car rolled down the driveway into our camper. Since the car was not on, no keys in the ignition, my husband's attempts to stop it failed. There was not enough damage to turn into our insurance company but we are concerned about the problem with the gear shifter being stuck and now this. I found a recall for this same exact problem on 2013 models and am curious if it should extend to 2011 as well.
Front dash board is structurally cracked without incident, cracked around front passenger airbag, in the event of deployment, dash material may in fact create shrapnel or other sharp object inflicting injury or death to vehicle passengers. GM has failed to formally recognize this problem. Also noteworthy is GM dealer already replaced complete dashboard at a cost of almost $2000, and 14 month later cracked again. Vehiicle located in Arizona, garaged parked and 65,000 miles on odometer
Several cracks on the dashboard that covers the air bag assembly concerned that if the airbag deploys that the plastic from the dashboard will cause bodily harm
Cracked dashboard. The dashboard in my 2011 Chevrolet Suburban cracked in two places on my way home from work on May 8, 2017. The cracks extend from the seam near the windshield to the front seam of the dash board. One is close to the driver's side instrument cluster an the other leads from the windshield to the passenger-side airbag housing. I was driving on a well paved, four lane road with a center turning lane. The road is well travelled and well maintained. As I stopped at the first light, I heard a cracking and then a clicking sound. The dashboard now vibrates while driving and is visibly loose.
There is a recall with takata airbag and Chevrolet has not furnished a replace the part or fix in a timely manner. Second issue is with dashboard cracking. My Suburban sits under our carport 99% of the time, but yet has a few cracks on the dash. Third issue is corrosion in the undercarriage, and I live in deep South Texas where it does not snow, and the beach is 1.5 hours away from where I live. This vehicle sits on just over 40K miles.
The dash panel of my 2011 Suburban ltz has multiple cracks. The cracks are on the driver's side, above the instrument panel from one end to the other, and at the passenger side air bag, from one end to the air bag. I have paid to have the cracks repaired multiple times, but they continue to crack, as evidenced by the attached pictures. These cracks have appeared completely on their own without anything being placed onto or hitting the dash panel. Should I be involved an accident causing the airbags to deploy, these cracks would create a "shrapnel effect" of the plastic pieces being forced into the passenger cabin and possibly into the faces of passengers.
About 6 months after purchasing the vehicle, the dash cracked in two places near the passenger air bag. This afternoon, I noticed the dash developed cracks in the same places. I am worried if the takata air bag deploys, we have an additional issue of dash pieces being thrown across the cabin.
Dashboard has cracked without any intervening event. One crack on the right passenger side of the dashboard is directly on the top left side of the passenger airbag. I'm afraid if airbag was deployed shards of plastic would become projectiles or possibly interfere with the airbag operation. Another crack on top of dashboard is on the drivers side on the top left side of the instrumentation cluster is more than 5.5 to 6 inches long.
