There really is no reason for a plastic dashboard to have cracked when it has never been taken apart.

Suburban LTZ

This vehicle is in excellent condition and has been garage kept. There is no reason for the dash to split as it did. It cracked on 2 sides of the dash and apparently a known problem. I fear it poses a huge safety concern as it will most definitely interfere with possible airbag deployment

We are surprised that the dashboard would just start to crack after 4years of owning a new SUV we have never had issues with no US built cars not sure what we will do with the next purchase.

Loved this vehicle until the dashboard in front of the steering wheel cracked. It is about 3 inches. This is totally unacceptable for a 50k vehicle. Chevrolet should be doing something about this. I will not purchase another...

Noticed a crack was orginating behind the instrument cluster "hump" this summer and since i have an extended warranty i figured i'd get it repared when during regural service. as the routine oil change approached i started having problems with the left rear window lift/lock and decided it's time to take her in for a fix. Lock/lift was covered under warranty but to my surprise the dash isn't because it's considered "trim". i have since engaged the good GM folks for assistance and will let you know how it turns out.

In my opinion, there's apparently some body torsion or expansion associated with heat that created this crack. i believe it's related to heat mainly because i can do down the streat and about the time the car has adjusted to the cool a/c i see and hear the crack "pop" back into original position. subsequently, i believe the dash is designed or installed under undue stress.

Btw, my car is a 4WD and i'm a bit hesitant to drive on uneven surfaces until i can rule out a cage torsion issue.

i'd appreciate anyone sharing info on this matter.

Update from Jan 3, 2012: Notified GM Support 1-800-222-1020 of my particulars and after a few short discussions that spanned a couple of weeks was notified that my local dealer is standing by to replace the cracked dash. I dropped my Suburban off and 4-hrs later was happy to find the dash replaced. I was so elated with the quality of service, I decided to go back to McEleveen Chevrolet and buy my daughter a 2012 Cruze for Christmas.
