Suburban LT 5.3L

The truck started shuddering/shaking and making loud noise. It was difficult to accelerate. I had to pull over on the freeway. We had just completed a tune-up with all new spark plugs the week before and then this happens. The engine needs to be replaced, which on the low end will be $2500 - $3000. Seeing as how I purchased the vehicle used and still making payments on it I was not going to pour more money into this money pit. I have reported the handful of other issues.

Four months later we were head on another trip having had our engine re-worked back in January, and while accelerating onto the freeway our engineer started to sputter and run rough. Our Traction Control light and Check Engine light started flashing. Most of our horsepower was gone. So we had to head to the shop yet again and rent a Suburban so our vacation was not destroyed. We took it back to chevy and they did the same work and replaced the Oil pump as well. We paid for the oil pump work, but they re-did the lifter, valve and cylinder work at no cost. This was two of three time the same issue happened. Stay tuned for 4/17.

Suburban LS V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 69,719 miles

Vehicle suddenly began to shimmy and shake and would not accelerate above 40mph. Check engine light and stablitrak warnings on. This was the first time I had any major problems with the vehicle. R&R cylinder heads replaced and all active lifters and VLOM per bulletin. R&R oil pan to add shield to oil pressure relief valve. Had to replace 5 exhaust studs and nuts. Change oil and filter and found water pump leaking upon test drive which was also replaced under warranty. Also right rear door lock was replaced which made the replacement of all 4 door locks.

The truck started burning excessive oil from this point on. Cannot go from one oil change, 3,000 miles, without engine light coming on and dipstick registers no oil.

Suburban LTZ V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 25,000 miles

The engine shakes fairly violently when started up. No problems prior. Car ran VERY slow and rough, having a difficult time shifting and accelerating.

This was a pain because it happened as my wife was at our preschool picking up our 3 year old with our 1 year old also there. They were stranded. It was 4pm and she had no way of getting home. I was at work at the firehouse for another 36 hours before I would be home to help.

It ended up being a Fuse that blew. GM mechanics checked all wiring to see what caused it to blow. They could not find anything. They drove it for about 30 miles on 3 separate occasions to try and mimic the blown fuse. They could not do it. So we are hoping it does not happen again.
