Excessive Oil Consumption
2007 Chevrolet Suburban (Page 9 of 10)
This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Chevrolet dealer.
CarComplaints.com Notes: Engines shouldn't need a new quart of oil every 500-1000 miles, but for thousands of Suburban owners that's exactly what's happening. Engine oil consumption on aluminum block engines with Active Fuel Management (AFM) is out of control and owners are left looking for answers.
The most likely culprit is an uncovered AFM valve which, in many cases, can be covered under warranty. The problem is the issues don't stop there and many owners have been told by GM just to buy a new engine. Take one guess who they want to pick up the tab.

- 2 Fixes To Suburban 5.3 AFM Excess Oil Use - (1) First <1 hr fix is changing the driver's side engine valve cover with the improved-design driver's side valve cover with the square PCV hole moved back (from the original circular PCV hole that is too far forward and siphons AFM-splashed oil). (2) Second fix is disabling or removing AFM which causes the excess oil splashing with either a custom pro-shop engine tune, a Range Technology AFM Disabler Device (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FQUAh5pTjIA) or an expensive replacement of AFM engine system hardware.

Ever since the truck was new and the oil consumption light would come on after approx 2000 miles and say add enging oil. the truck has been in the shop since purchase. the dealership has been very accommodating with the loaner cars but the time and trouble it takes to get the car there, swap everything out from one car to the other be late for work. I have searched for the resolution to this issue and there does not seem to be one. the dealer keeps telling me that the truck needed a gasket, oil plug, rods, sensor, and now pistons (which are on back order for 2 weeks). This last time the car was there for 4 days. I am calling GM to piss and moan about this.
I have a business selling and Servicing Fitness Equipment and if a customer has an ongoing issue dam right they want it replaced and I do it for them. try that with a car dealer and you get this is what you purchased and we have to keep trying to fix it.
