Engine oil consumption on aluminum block engines with Active Fuel Management (AFM) is out of control and owners are left looking for answers.
The most likely culprit is an uncovered AFM valve which, in many cases, can be covered under warranty. The problem is the issues don't stop there and many owners have been told by GM just to buy a new engine. Take one guess who they want to pick up the tab.

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Suburban 1500. He stated that he was unable to read the speedometer and other instruments during daylight. He attempted to adjust the brightness of the instrument panel; however, the problem continued to occur. A complaint was submitted to General Motors. While driving my 2004 GMC Suburban home with my family. I looked down and noticed I was driving at 90 miles an hour. What a surprise. The speedometer was reading wrong. By the time I got home I was going 120 miles an hour pulling into my driveway. This just happened and I have not gotten it fixed yet. This could be a major safety issue if not fixed. I read many blogs and many people have had this same issue. I am very lucky that no one was injured or killed by this safety issue. In my opinion this should be covered by a safety recall. I work for GM and I am very embarrassed by this quality issue. So much for the quality of GM vehicles when I see many other customers have the same issue.
