CarComplaints.com Notes: Engines shouldn't need a new quart of oil every 500-1000 miles, but for thousands of Suburban owners that's exactly what's happening. Engine oil consumption on aluminum block engines with Active Fuel Management (AFM) is out of control and owners are left looking for answers.

The most likely culprit is an uncovered AFM valve which, in many cases, can be covered under warranty. The problem is the issues don't stop there and many owners have been told by GM just to buy a new engine. Take one guess who they want to pick up the tab.

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Suburban. Whenever the contact turned on the radio while the vehicle was off, she noticed that the battery would fail within a 2 - 10 minute period causing the contact to continually have to replace the battery. The vehicle was taken to the dealership where the contact was informed that the battery needed to be replaced, however the contact continued to experience the failure. The current and failure mileages were 40,000.

Suburban 8-cyl

  • 2,000 miles
In August last year I purchased a 2007 Chevrolet Suburban. At 2000 miles the car is 1st totally draining the battery ( I was in camping in the middle of the forest- they found me after 3 hrs- sheriff dept). Since then every month same and the dealer can not find the problem. They changed 3 batteries. Today 2/21/2007 is the 7th time. I pay $825/mth + rent a car every month -- they do not pay for rent a car because they start blame each other. GMC is blaming the dealer and the dealer GMC. I'm in the middle and I don't have a car. I need your help thank you.
