My 17 year old daughter was stopped at a busy intersection. My 14 year old son was sitting on the passenger side. They had been stopped for about one minute when the engine made a strong revving noise and lurched into the middle of the intersection. The driver behind my daughter confirmed her account as did my son. They were struck on the driver's side by a truck and spun around. The front of the vehicle was hit during the spin. Both of my children were taken to the hospital by ambulance. Thankfully their injuries were not serious. The vehicle was "totaled" according to the insurance company. From what I have read online, unintentional acceleration is very difficult to prove or reproduce. I am horrified to think about how bad this accident could have been. I am also concerned for other families currently driving this model. I realize how strange this occurrence sounds, but it seems more strange to hypothesize that my daughter willfully pulled out into oncoming traffic. I believe it happened exactly as reported by my son and daughter. If anyone has any ideas on what to check out before releasing the vehicle for demolition I would appreciate it.
