rear door panel locks shut, no way to open manually
I have a complaint that impacts my family on multiple levels. First of all, please understand that we are a GM family - all the cars in our driveway are GMs, (Silverado, Corvette and Suburban) and proudly and purposely that way. However, we have a few potentially serious issues that need to be corrected in one vehicle, and it seems as though these problems were inherent in the vehicle. We are only complaining about one model right now, and have never complained before. We have dealt with routine maintance as just that - something that is our responsibility. These things we will list seem to fall beyond that....
There is no manual opening in the inside of the vehicle for the rear hatch area - definately a safety hazard to my 2 kids in the 3rd row seats should we need to exit quickly, perhaps in a flood or in a water situation pt s fire. I realized this when I discovered that I can no longer use my FOB to open the rear hatch. It makes a wierd noise when I press the unlock button, but it is stuck locked. Which basically means I can no longer use my cargo area - I live in Dallas, and in the summers that makes the vehicle about 130 degrees (conservately, I assure you) in a grocery parking lot - I can not have my children load groceries into the back from the back seat safely, and then have the reverse procedure when we get home - to crawl back into deathly hot conditions to bring bags to the doors 2 seats up to then be hauled out the 2nd row of passenger seats where the doors are located. This is considerably more work than just bringing the bags or cargo out the rear hatch, as intended, and frought with danger to my little ones.
Neither the key nor FOB opens the back hatch. Neither the key nor FOB provide access to the back through the window. The entire back of my vehicle is inaccessable from the outside or inside. With 4 kids and a considerable amount of gear that taking 4 kids anywhere requires we NEED this rear access. I don't have unlimited funds to take it to the chevy dealer to get it fixed at an unknown, inflated price. I searched for this problem on the internet and found a plethora of people with the same problem, but to my amazement there was no recall, nor concern by GM. We are a GM family. The last 5 cars we purchased have all been GM, and we believe strongly in American automobiles. I bought this vehicle when I learned I was having kid #4 after being happy in a Yukon that we purchased brand new just a few years prior, but not having the adequate space to house the last child. I would not have purchased this Suburban had I known that I would have potentially very expensive electrical problems less than 10 years into ownership. I expected this vehicle to outlast my immediate motherhood. Please address the problems which are 1) the safety problem of not having an inside door handle to release the rear hatch. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD 2) The locking up of the entire rear hatch (door and window included) rendering the key and FOB entirely useless. 3) I didn't do anything to cause this - please consider your customer base as humans and allow this to be recalled so that these measures may be taken care of as they should have in production. THANK YOU!!!
