I've had to replace my fuel pump 3 times in the last 6 years. I found out that there was a recall in 2005, but I bought my vehicle in 2011. The dealership will not honor the recall because it's not a open recall any longer.

Fuel was pouring out from the top portion of the fuel tank, on my year 2000 Chevrolet Suburban 2500 where the line goes into the pump at the tank. There was a serious potential fire hazard from fuel pouring onto the exhaust system while driving. I had a certified service station remove the fuel tank, and perform a smoke test. They found the leak coming from the fuel pump assembly. Replaced fuel pump assembly, and fuel filter as recommended. Reinstalled tank, and road tested for any leaks, none found. Total parts, tax, and labor came to $935.05.

The contact owns a 2000 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact was driving 70 mph when the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was able to pull over to the side of the road but was unable to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to a local mechanic. The mechanic stated that the fuel pump failed and needed to be replaced. The contact did not call the manufacturer. The contact had the fuel pump replaced two months prior to the recent failure. The failure mileage was 201,000.
