Brakes slippage at low speeds when trying to come to a stop. No warning. Dealership tells me it is antilock brake sensors that have been corroded which is covered for some vehichles under recall.
: the contact stated when pressure was applied to the brake pedal at 5 mph, the ABS brake system engaged which caused an increase in braking distance. The service dealer and manufacturer were contacted. The contact removed the fuse to the to the ABS brake system. Updated 09/11/06.
After 50,000 miles on my 1999 Chevrolet Suburban (5.7 / 4WD), I started to experience ABS activation at lower speeds when no traction loss was actually happening. This made the distance increase significantly and made for potentially dangerous situations. It was serviced by my local Chevy dealership at my cost.
The contact stated there was NHTSA recall 05V379000 for the ABS system, but this vehicle was not included in the recall although the vehicle is experienced the same problems as indicated in the recall. The service dealer said it was the ABS sensor that caused the problems. The dealer confirmed the problem was due to corrosion built up on the ABS sensor.
ABS activates continuously at slow speeds extending the stopping distance. This makes you feel like the brakes have failed. This is a problem that occurs every time the vehicle is driven at slow speeds.
