This issue first occurred within a month of purchase. In addition to the flashing engine light and traction lights being on, the car shakes and won't accelerate properly. I turned it on and off and after a couple of times those symptoms went away, but it would take 20+ minutes of driving for the acceleration issues to go away.
On average, this issue continued to occur every 2 or 3 weeks. I kept taking it to the dealership and they kept saying nothing was wrong and that the car didn't have any log of the light even going on.
They finally took the engine apart, cleaned all the pistons and the fuel injector, and replaced the spark plugs just in case. Guess what? 3 weeks later, the issue happened again, but at least this time the acceleration issue wasn't as bad. They wouldn't take the car back because they couldn't 'reproduce' my issue and decided it wasn't dangerous and now the warranty is over and I can't afford to take the car in every time the light goes off just in case there is something serious going on.
Last week this happened again, but worse. The lights went on and stayed on for 3 days! Then, of course, they turned off right as I was able to get it into the dealer. Now the rattling and acceleration issues are starting to occur without the lights. This morning, guess what? the original problem happened again, complete with shaking. Now the issues are happening more frequently.
I am not the only person in my family who has witnessed this, but the dealership won't believe me and I'm now stuck with a car that may be a death trap on wheels.
Update from Nov 20, 2017: This issue continued to grow worse, with the car bucking and not going into gear at certain RPMs. I took it to the dealership several more times in the Spring of 2017, and finally after a cop pulled me over and told me to fix the issue, the dealership listened. It took 1 month, but they finally replaced my transmission. Now it is like having an entirely new car. It has much more zip and barely any issue with hills. No shaking anymore.
