The coolant overflow tank outlet cracked while driving the car, resulting in an overheating situation. Coolant was all over the engine compartment and smoke filled the area. After paying for the replacement part on 7/27/18 the issue returned on 8/24/18. At that time it was determined by the dealer that while I had paid for the work and part, it had not been preformed. The dealer did the repair during the second visit after the car again overheated.
WITHIN THE TWO AND AHALF YEARS I HAVE HAD THIS CAR MY OVERHEAT LIGHT HAS COME ON TWICE, BOTH TIMES I HAD TO REPLACE THE TEMPERATURE CONTROL ASSEMBLY. THIS PART IS NOT CHEAP, HAS LEFT ME STRANDED ON THE ROAD BOTH TIMES. OF COURSE DIDN'T OCCUR UNTIL WARRANTY WAS UP, A YEAR AFTER REPLACING THE FIRST ONE, I HAD TO REPL.ACE AGAIN .
When I was coming home well after dark, the overheated engine light came on and went off several times. By the time I reached home, it was on. The next morning, I called a tow truck through Chevy roadside assistance and notified the dealer that the car was coming. I received a call back that it needed a part and should be ready to drive the next day. It is now two days later and they still don't have the part. I buy new cars so that I don't have to put up with this kind of nonsense. So much for that idea!
Prior to this problem, which I now find is not uncommon, I was happy with my Sonic LTZ. It's got everything I need or want in a car except now I don't have use of it. Grrrr.
