CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2012 Chevrolet Sonic is fairly new & is already showing an early trend of transmission problems.
Owners report hesitation when shifting & grinding/hard shifting into gears. Some dealers are calling the condition "normal". Another owner reported his dealership replaced the transmission under warranty, but the new transmission had the same exact grinding problem. Design defect?

I was turning left when the driver behind me, who was speeding, crossed the double yellow line and attempted to pass me on the left as I was turning left. Initial impact was the driver door; as his car moved forward, it took my front wheel off and part of the axial, wrecked the front fender and more as you can see in the photo. The impact caused my Sonic to spin in the road. I bumped my head hard on the door frame and was knocked out for a little while. NONE of the airbags deployed. The supposed safety provided by the ten airbags was a big selling feature to me when I considered buying the vehicle. If I would have known the airbags didn't work, I wouldn't have purchased it. I feel cheated, lied to, and taken advantage of. My husband is absolutely livid to think I could have died; it was a miracle I didn't.
