CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2012 Chevrolet Sonic is fairly new & is already showing an early trend of transmission problems.
Owners report hesitation when shifting & grinding/hard shifting into gears. Some dealers are calling the condition "normal". Another owner reported his dealership replaced the transmission under warranty, but the new transmission had the same exact grinding problem. Design defect?

January 7, 2016 just after 12 noon and just before a heavy rain event, traveling north on I-19 and right turning into Exit 92 (San Xavier Rd.) at the highway's posted speed limit of 65..... the brake pedal went right to the floor. I pumped the pedal hitting the floor about 3 times and yelling to my wife "no brakes" we started the immediate curve to the right when the car slid out and crashed into the guardrail.
The car was towed to Watson Chevrolet in Tucson, Az. January 8 I filed a complaint with the NHTSA and received a complaint number (10818885). Same day I called Chevrolet and gave them this info receiving a reference number (8-1748125463). Nothing was said to me about what to do next regarding the car. Within days, Progressive Ins. totaled the car out and we received a check to use for buying a replacement vehicle.
January 20, 2016 a John Holmes with Chevrolet called (866 446-6963 Ext. 5921549) from Central Claims. He mostly informed me that Chevrolet would do nothing (not checking the car), since we had already settled with the insurance company. My two concerns are ... one) I will no doubt be listed at fault for the crash, since no one will even check out what might have happened to the car and... two) what if this is a problem with this type of Sonic and it is happening to others. The brakes worked fine as we left our house to start this trip. There was no indication of leaking brake fluid. We bought the car new and never had a previous brake problem of any kind with it.
