CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2012 Chevrolet Sonic is fairly new & is already showing an early trend of transmission problems.

Owners report hesitation when shifting & grinding/hard shifting into gears. Some dealers are calling the condition "normal". Another owner reported his dealership replaced the transmission under warranty, but the new transmission had the same exact grinding problem. Design defect?

So far having it inspected there is no sign of anti-freeze loss yet we still lose antifreeze on a regular basis. You can smell it slightly outside the car when running the heater. Once again another thing in less than 2yrs wrong with the car.

I have a 2012 Chevy Sonic Hatchback that begin at 2,000 miles leaking water into the passenger side floor board when it rains really hard. After taking it to the shop 4 times, the dealer is unable to duplicate the problem but GM tells them a way that should fix the problem. I have noticed a faint antifreeze smell while driving this car when the heat is on sometimes the whole time but I thought that it was a new car smell. I started noticing that I was having more frequent headaches and a scratchy throat the last 4 months. I have several people riding in this car with me that smells this odor but the dealer keeps telling me that they are unable to smell it or find a leak. My husband is a diesel mechanic and he also has smellt this but it has not been found to this day. This smell has to be a health hazard for my family and friends that have rode in my car. I have been dealing with the BBB and GM but there has been no solution to my problem. I have just filed for an arbitration to see if GM will repurchase my vehicle back. I forgot to mention that I bought this car in May 2012 and it has been to the dealer a total of 9 times in a year. I have 2 Chevy Sonic's but I am having no problems with the other one. No consumer should have to spend this kind of money for a brand new vehicle and spend money and time driving back and forth constantly to a dealer to have it checked out. This car has been an inconvenience, headache, money pit, and possibly a health hazard for me and my family.
