Opened hood to refill DEF container and noticed the window was cracking as i watched it progress from bottom of window directly in line with structural crossbar in engine bay to a position about 4 inches above window base. Strangely the window only cracked on the inside of the layered window. It initially only slow creeped about 4" toward the upper windshield position and I watched it progress very slowly.
Subsequently the crack has gone more than half way up the glass but it's still on inside. After much aggravation to set a service appointment with dealer "Schumaker chevrolet in lake park fl." It was explained to me that the dealer doesn't do windshield replacement and the service writer (Justin Blasko) gave me every excuse under the sun as to why a windshield would crack in such a manner (non of which made any sense to me as an engineer) and tried to tell me that my insurance company would have to take care of it.
Not being one to take no for an answer for an obvious windshield defect, I went to another dealer and they explained to me that they will not replace the windshield because GM does not warranty the windshield unless its under 12k on the tripometer. I cannot find anywhere in the warranty information where the windshield is excluded from the bumper to bumper warranty that comes with a new vehicle. One would think if GM is willing to place a value on the sticker of 70-90 thousand dollars for a truck that they would be committed to the warranty that they offer, but alas, given the current state of having to involve courts in every minor detail of life I assume its worth their effort to pay the lawyers to fend off responsibility for their product.
Its a shame, I finally came back to GM after a 12 year hiatus because of their crap diesel engines before the duramax series and I really enjoy the look and ride of the GM product. I am just beside myself that I went back to them to purchase anything strictly based on the veniality and marketing hype. I suspect that I will have to go back to the Cummins products out there as the last one I had was still running at 410K when I sold it. I have multiple trucks that are running in my business and are maintained to the highest standards. None of them will be a GM product in the future unless there are no other options!!!!
