in 2020, I have purchased my LTZ 2017 Silverado (dually) with crew cab when it had less than 5,000 kilometers. Dually trucks are not that popular in Kuwait, but I use it as my daily driver. Around 16,500 kilometers, I started feeling that the gears are dropping down when I slowed down to make stops. I never felt those light jerks before. Not only that, before take off, when I take my foot off the brake pedal, I would feel another light jerks as if something is going back in the proper place, again.
I was not sure what it was, so I went to different transmission shops for a solution. I was told that this was a common problem in the Silverado trucks.
Solutions? 2 of the transmission shops have informed me that they would try to reprogram the computer of the truck. If that does not work, then they would have to take the transmission a part to replace an internal switch that controls the shifting of the gears. Another shop has informed me that this issue would return after either reprogramming the computer or replacing the internal switches. His suggestion was to ignore the problem since it would not get worse in the future.
I went to the dealership to see if there was any recalls for the same issue. The answer was "No recalls". Then I was asked to bring the truck back to them for a complete transmission check up since the manager of the service informed me that this issue could need reprogramming, which matches the same feedback I received for the other transmission shops.
I am not sure what is going to happen to the transmission in the near future or how much it would cost me to fix it, but I am sure the cost would be high. I am very disappointed with the truck since it has 17,000 kilometers, only. My 2009 GMC (dually) never had such issues, which made me buy this 2017 Silverado without any hesitation.
I hope you have a solution for such an issue, since the transmission shops knew about this common transmission issue with similar trucks.
